Fabia Friend or FOE !

Featured Replies

so reading that if the crankshaft or crankshaft bearing fail it is a new short engine?

if so how do they marry the two pieces of the block when they are made?

I dno.

I do know that they changed it in 2010. The new version doesnt have a balancer shaft, and has an optimised crank shaft instead.

So the newer cars might not have that idea

Always sad to hear of a bad experience with a car.

Even sadder to hear the brand being blamed for a one off experience. This sort of finger pointing can be aimed at every make of car ever made if we are to search out the one that failed.

Thing is it seems the OP had a bad experience for whatever reason but Fabias and big end problems are as rare as hens teeth.

He had been pulling the engine apart himself though?

Indeed, if you read his other thread, he has. He also must have removed the timing chain and he did seek advice on this forum on how to reassemble and set the timing up.

My best guess is, he messed his engine up stripping it down causing either lubrication failure (did he disturb the bottom chain that runs the oil pump?) or timing/camshaft issue which caused piston/valve contact, after all he did remove the camshaft/chain/hydraulic tappets and didnt seem to know how to refit them.

Maybe the ticking he referrred to, was an very early indication of something wrong, big end or otherwise. But as far as I know, big ends, when they go, go gradually over an extended period of days to weeks, become very loud knocking, using oil etc. but dont stop the engine from running

And id agree with you. I dont think youd be far wrong

Just seems harsh blaming the car, when hes the one thats been taking it apart without knowin what hes doing lol
