I'm looking for an earth point near the fusebox/pedals

Featured Replies

Hi everybody,

I'm looking for a decent earth point on my 55 plate Mk1 VRS - I intend on hard-wiring in my Valentine One radar detector so I don't have to use the cigarette lighter socket.

I've only had the car for a week or so and I'm new to the layout of everything - especially the wiring!

I've attached a photo of what I've discovered so far - none of which look like earth points to me.

The hard-wiring kit consists of an 'add-a-circuit' which slots into the fuse box and then an earth wire to complete the circuit.

Any help/advice/pointers would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance :)

Think theres a earth point to the right of those on the chassis. Might be under the carpet

Thanks for that link - I saw it during my initial forum search, but it's just getting to it...  It was a real struggle to take the photo I posted, so getting to that domed nut is going to be interesting.

That picture you took, that plastic fuse box is bolted to a steel plate. That steel plate is your earth

Just take the lower trim off only a couple of torx and gives loads of room and access to the domed nut for the earth point.

Thanks guys - that's what I ended up doing :)  I've attached the earth cable to the bolt holding the fuse/relay box to the steel plate - sorted!

The domed nut isn't realistically accessible unless you take off the front section of the dashboard where the headlight switch is - in my car at least.
