How long for insurance to pay up after car theft?

Featured Replies

Can anyone comment on how long an insurance company might take to pay up after a car theft? It was from someone I know - car was taken using keys stolen from house by breaking in; police attended etc.

I've found one comment on this page saying 4-6 weeks, but no others in the first 10 pages.

Thanks.

Happened to my brother about 2 months ago. He had his within 8 weeks after disputing pay out

We used to wait 2 months - 50% + of all stolen cars used to be traced within that period - but that could vary according to the make & model (although I wasn't privy to the exact details of the variations)

Each Insurer will have their own "rules" though.

Thanks - those are helpful.

Yup the delay is because it'll likely be found.

If it is make sure locks are changed and immobiliser recoded.

Mine was paid out in full and in the bank after 4 days .....due to the way it was stolen using the 1 series security flaw
