Enquired about effect on my policy today if I fitted an intake, allianz won't insure any car with performance upgrades on. Buggers.

Not really that interesting but annoying for me and thought others may want a heads up for future reference.

And??? There is no obligation on any insurer to quote for any cover as long as their reason for refusing cover isn't blatently racist or sexist.

It's quite comical actually, Skoda insurance is underwritten by Allianz, and got a quote of ~£590 mark, which I rejected.

 

So just for fun I tried a quote from their "Normal" website, entered all my details and it refused to quote, so I rung the number on the website and they said "We don't insure Skoda Octavia vRS's, they're a performance car, we don't insure cars like that which are considered high risk!", so I turned around and said "Well you better stop underwriting Skoda Insurance then, because you do, but you're not competitive enough".

I just got insured allianz yesterday for my VRS. No issues and turned out to be the cheapest for me.

Allianz and Zurich are both pretty similar - VERY risk averse. Unless you're 50+ and drive a 1.6 Diesel Golf and live in the middle of nowhere they really aren't interested*.

 

* This may be slightly exaggerated.

It's not. I live in the middle of the Surrey countryside in a small village, on a quiet lane. The last car theft or burglary was about 2 years ago & that was about 1½ miles from me!
