Wheel alignment not right

Featured Replies

Got 'new' car the other week a 2010 Accord Tourer.

When I picked it up and drove it home I noticed the wheel alignment was well out, pulling to the left. If I et got of the wheel it dropped about 10deg to the left and car veered. Phoned Honda (it's an approved used car) they booked it in with a local repairer who had a Hunter set.

Got the car back from the garage and drove it home. It's better but I still feel the car is pulling left. Wary now I'm about to get into an argument with the garage "it's just the camber of the road sir".

It's going to go back in anyway for another snag and they're going to look at it again. Apparently the front left was out 18deg when the put on the rig.

When I drive now I have to keep a constant pressure on the wheel to keep it straight. I'm not talking about a suicidal veer to the ditch but it's notable to me. With the wheel dead straight on I feel the car going left.

I actually took it on the wrong side of the road this morning (when quiet) and with my hands of it drove straighter on the reverse camber but still a little to the left I felt.

I think it feels worse on roads with a stronger camber, so less notable on a dual carriageway for instance.

Car had an advisory for play in the steering rack on last MOT which was fixed, I was told. Also no recollection of pulling on the test drive which might have been prior to the fix.

Anything else that might be the cause of bother?

Checked the wheel temperatures when I parked up the morning thinking about binding brakes but both fronts were equally warm (didn't check the rears). Car got new front disks and pads before I picked it up.

No other handling oddities, no knocks, rumbles or other strange things.

I would get them to diagonally swop your tyres front to rear to rule them out first, as if it was out for a fair amount of time, the tyres may have worn to a particular pattern to highlight the pull.

I presume the alignment place did not comment on any component damage at all?.

Wasn't privvy to the conversation. Franchise sent the car for alignment.

Are the front tyres identical?  Even a difference in speed rating on otherwise identical tyres made my Roomster pull slightly to one side.

Swap the front tyres around or change the back wheels to the front.

They're directional so not so easy to swap around.

Not going to do too much at the mo just fishing for ideas. If the car was sold to me with defective tyres I'll be pushing for gratis replacements.

Pressures were low all round when I checked but made no difference to the drive this morning.

Doesn't matter if they are directional to swap them round, just to test out.   You can always swap them back later.
