Parking sensor retrofit

Featured Replies

As my warranty is due to expire on Sunday I can now get round to retrofitting full factory fit parking sensors. Depending on which bit of ELSA I read it's not clear which set of holes to drill into the bumper as there are two different sets of marks on the inside of the bumper.  Does anyone on here have a post 2010 estate with factory fitted parking sensors and could you please post the distance between each sensor from left to right? I need the measurements to be from centre to centre of each sensor to the nearest 2 or 3 millimetres.

Thanks

Phil

The holes should be marked on the inside of the bumper.

The size of home will depend upon whether your sensors need externally visible mounting brackets / collars or not.

I know the size of holes. It's 17mm and I have the correct Skoda tool for cutting them.

There are eight sets of marks on the inside of the bumper. Do you know which 4 I need to cut? There are 3 possible options for the 2 sets of marks.  Factory fit pre 2010, factory fit post 2010 and accessory fit. I don't know which is which so having someone measure their post 2010 factory fit sensor distances will answer my question. I just haven't been able to find a reasonably local trade sale of an estate with sensors to wander onto their forecourt with a tape measure.

I have all the kit and have partially installed it for post 2010 factory fit. I don't want to cut the wrong 4 holes.

If i was to measure my dealer fit sensors on my hatch, would that help you narrow it down?

Or shall i not bother?

I cant help other Than that im afraid

That would be most appreciated. At the worst I find the distances are different and I have to put the bumper back on without cutting the holes.  I haven't got the measurements of mine yet as I would prefer to only have to take the bumper off once but having removed the taillights and using a torch down the gap I can see the marks for the two outer sensors.

I can't believe there's no one on the forum with a post 2010 estate with factory sensors though...... Please help, I know you're out there.....

Ill do it soon mate. As soon as i lay my hands on a tape measure aha. Not at home at the moment.

I know! Theres defo lots of them out there. Maybe go through the 'show us your monte' thread, identify a few and send em a PM so they cant escape? Haha.

Sorry about the delay in response, iv only just got back.

Theres 4 sensors of course, between the 2 middle ones its 525mm centre to centre, then from one of those, to the outside ones its 400mm centre to centre.

If that makes sense?

It might be worth noting that mine is a hatch, and they are dealer fit, not factory.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, hope so although yours is possibly two ways different from what I want as it's hatchback and dealer fit.

I cant see why theyd use different holes for the factory fit ones though?

And also, i cant see why an estate would be different. Same car isnt it, just a tad longer

The dealer fit sensors, brackets and ecu are definitely different.  The estate might well be different. there's a separate setting in the ECU for it.

Ah dear. I cant understand why haha.

Good luck anyway :).

I've got a 2012 Estate with factory fit sensors if you need a confirmation of the distances?

Yes please.

Will grace it with a tape measure tonight..

Slightly approximate but I get:

O     395          O            412               O          395            O

To within a couple of mm each way.  That differs from the other measurement so if you want a double check, I'll have another look later.  Mine's a vRS - don't know if that makes a difference?

Thanks very much, that'll be close enough. Mine's also a vRS but I don't think the bumper's any different other than the diffuser being attached.

I fitted after market sensors and checked on 14 plate hatch in garage forecourtwith tape measure (a roused a few worried glances from sales staff).

They were all 415mm between centres near enough so the figures quoted sound spot on for your needs.

Lots of room on my TSI estate bumper for lea-way for fitting anyway.

Good luck.
