inner door handle does not open door..

Today I took apart the doorcard on the drivers side, and the door membrane had a lot of cuts in it and was taped with masking tape. I took this off and replaced with bin liner and loads of insulation tape as a temp measure, however refitting everything, now the indoor handle does not open the driver door.. :-( The cable hasn't snapped and is hooked on behind the handle, so what could be the issue..?

There's a metal bit on the cable that also has to be clipped into the black plastic part of the handle, it allows the handle to pull the wire from the sleeve and provide leverage to open the latch.

As above I made this mistake wednesday while checking the cables and control unit.

comes off when you get it over the door pin.... ive stretched mine when my door lock went need to replace it somehow
