Fuel duty

Featured Replies

The Road Haulage Association is delighted that following a meeting at the Treasury with Chief Secretary Danny Alexander and the FairFuelUK team, the Government has recognised that lower fuel duty can be an economic stimulus not just an additional revenue earner from already hard-pressed hauliers and motorists.

At a the meeting, the Chief Secretary presented FairFuelUK spokesman Quentin Willson and founder Howard Cox, with the government's recently published fuel duty dynamic modelling which supports the fuel campaign group's long-held contention that lower fuel duty increases jobs, GDP and economic activity.

Commenting, RHA Chief Executive Geoff Dunning said: "The Road Haulage Association has supported FairFuelUK since its inception three and a half years ago and this news confirms, without doubt, the fact that we made the right decision. Now, with a general election on the horizon, we shall be working even more closely with FFUK to ensure that we can get Government to go one step further and make a positive cut in fuel duty - a boost that the economy, hauliers and every other road user so desperately needs."

Not exactly rocket science is it ?

'Iraq',

'Ukraine',

 Eurozone Economy & deflation,

they might have plans and hopes and wishes,

they are going to count for nothing, its all out of the UK Governments hands now.

When will they realise that adding duty to fuel doesn't add value to the fuel, yet they stick Value Added Tax on the duty.

Nothing to the good will happen as long as we have this ''non elected'' government in power, Might see some sweeteners coming up with a general election soon but that won't last.........

Fuel duty as a revenue raiser is almost perfect as you can't avoid paying it, you pay it before you use it and the fuel industry calculates and collects it for you.

It's way too high of course, but that's because governments try to do too much, spend money inefficiently and give it away unnecessarily, but I have a secret admiration for whoever thought up the idea.

How much difference a small cut in duty (1p or 2p maybe?) would make is subject to conjecture, particularly as the Iraq situation is putting upward pressure on oil prices, thereby probably wiping out any gain from the cut in duty.

It would probably make more sense to cut the road fund licence rates, especially for the road haulage industry.

If cuts come, It will have to be across the board not just the road haulage business, The private motorist is being squeezed off the road in many cases which is unfair to a lot of people. As an HGV driver i have noticed that some of our vehicles that us Adblue (fermented pigs pi$$) as an additive to the diesel get a discount on road tax, Some of the wagons cost slightly more than my octy on Road tax so if any reduction comes it has to be in the form of fuel duty reductions, But as i've said before, I won't be holding my breath for this government to do anything good for the people of this country....

Russia about to turn off the gas taps in Ukraine. ISIS on a murder spree across Iraq.

Syria still a basket case.

Libya still a basket case.

We can't past the red tape on fracking.

Don't hold your breath for cheap fuel.

Now here is a  crazy idea, something like,

'We are Doomed at least for a short period in the UK for road fuel supplies !'.

That is if some of the UK Born Terrorists blow up the St Fergus - Grangemouth Pipe Line,

or some Pipe Lines or Fuel Terminals around the UK.

That will give

'No need to be Bashfull about being British' David Cameron MP & PM

& 'Friend of the Haulage Industry',  & Photo Opportunity Fiend Danny Alexander MP something to think about in their last 11 months of being British Politicians.

It will give us all something to think about, the UK has been very excluded from the horrors that happen in other Countries

with the Weapons we Produce and sell.

Surely that distance from things is coming to an end in the near future.
