Bulb failure system works then

Featured Replies

Started up for the second time this morning to find the maxidot going bananas about a left rear brake light failure, along with a yellow warning triangle glowing bright on the bottom of the main instrument block. Switching to vehicle status on the infomat also confirmed the same fault.

Checked the brake lights when I got home and indeed the bulb was out. Freeing the tail lamp unit to get at the bulb proved a bit of a faff, as the front locating pins stubbornly refused to come out of the rubber grommets.

Bulb to the eye looked OK but I swapped it with the redundant nearside fog bulb as they were the same and hay presto fault fixed.

Mind not great having to do a bulb change on a car just over 4 months old and less than 6k on the clock; another electrical system wobble to add to the list with this car.

I had a warning last night for a sidelight bulb. Today, no warning and the sidelights work OK. Probably a bulb on it's way out.

I had similar on my Octy II with a DRL bulb. Showed a fault for months which cleared when driving & eventually blew months down the line. Presumably driving on rough roads created the connection again.

One of my reversing bulbs has gone after only three months. Pretty poor really.

Faults do happen though. That's life.

I had the same issue with number plate bulb on 5th day of ownership with 200 miles on clock. Took it to dealers and they were convinced it was a loose connection. fixed it only for the warning light to appear again last night while I was driving back with headlights on. After a couple of stop start at traffic lights, the warning disappeared and lights are working normal. Not sure what is loose now  :dull:

Out of interest, what kind of life do bulbs have?

I can't remember changing one for years and I do check.

Variable life - I've got 40 year old ones in my one car, yet had an indicator bulb go on my Scirocco within 2 years.  Had an Astra that used to eat headlight and (moreso) sidelight bulbs like they were going out of fashion.

Stalk is a hw failure snd shouldn't have happened. Startstop same. What kind of radio do you have?

Start Stop is software issue.
