Crushed Jacking points

Featured Replies

MySuperb,  ( 3 years old ) has substantial damage to all the jacking points. The ones at the rear are worst. The damage is the result of the seam on the sill being too weak to withstand the use of trolley jacks. The hand book offers no advice on this matter. Skoda say its not their problem but do not offer a pad with a groove to spread the load to enable trolley jacks to be used.

It seems inevitable that even if I have the damage re[paired ( new sills ) that they next time tyre fitters pick up the car that the same problem will arise.

From my perspective the hand book is light on information / Skoda should offer the correct accessory.

Just a heads up before other are caught out by this problem.

The jacking points are behind the sills. Anyone using a trolley jack should know to find the hardened support areas and not crush the sills. The tyre place I use doesn't crush the sills and they don't use/need a pad with a groove in it.

Why should Skoda sell a jack pad. They don't sell trolley jacks, the supplied jack doesn't need one and the pads are widely available elsewhere. Would they sell one for every size of jack head?

The sills are only used for jacking if you use the scissor jack in the boot, the trolley jacking points are elsewhere as mentioned previously.

If the sills have been crushed by tyre fitters:

1 ) Get the repairs done and send the bill (via solicitor if necessary) to them.

2 ) Change tyre fitters for future.

I use the hockey puck to preserve the sealent on the sills.

It is possible to crack or twist off the sealeant with a bare topped trolley jack.

I've always used a block of wood on my trolley jack, pretty skanky & cracked now but has saved no end of damage to cills.
