Which Lance?

Featured Replies

Good Morning, all.

The snowfoam lance that I bought from CYC some 18 months ago has `given up the ghost`. (foam comes out like milk), so I'm in the market for a new one.

Now, obviously, the one I got from there may well have been a one off and a new one might well be fine but I think I'd rather have a bash at a different one.

I'm always hearing good things about the AB lance, so I'm thinking of going there.

Now, I dont belong to Detailing World so their current group buy is not for me.

Going to the AD website I see that they have 2

Here:  http://www.autobritedirect.co.uk/index.php/catalogsearch/result/?q=snow+foam+lance

So, a couple of questions if I may;

1. Is the AB one about the best?

2. Which one should I go for?

As you can see, the `Standard` is £44, with the `Heavy duty` reduced to £30.

Seems like a no brainer, but I'd very much appreciate your thoughts.

Many thanks

Regards

Mike.

Does your CYC lance come apart as usually there is a fine mesh gauze inside them which creates the foam, this gets blocked and requires cleaning?

AB heavy duty lance is the way to go..... no question!

The deal is so good - i ordered a spare!

Yeah, I've done that...twice...made no difference I'm afraid.

Tell me...does this one come fully assembled?

The reason I ask is the first couple of lines in the description which I find confusing

(The Autobrite Foam Lance fits to the 2 piece pressure washer lance you have on your machine)

Mine came assembled - yes.

It means it fits into the quicklock system on your pressure gun.

Just tried to order the Heavy duty one at £30, but came up with the usual price of £45!

Sent them an email asking why but I'm still waiting for an answer to a question I emailed them some time ago...so not expecting to hear from them for a while...if at all!

Go on detailing world. Your get that lance and 500ml snowfoam for 40 delivered.

Just the lance delivered costs 36.50 on their website.

Regiester on DW look in group buy section and follow instructions. I did yesterday and its been delivered today.

Ah, that's the point I'm making...its not £36.50 on their website, its £45 (the original price) plus £6.50 delivery, making £51.50.

Mike...... Autobrite are dreadful at answering emails and even the telephone!

As suggested: Register on DW and buy their group buy offer

Well, I never knew buying a new Lance was going to be so complicated...

Surprise Surprise I did get a reply from my email to AB, asking me to phone them and they will honour the £30 deal. Phoned 4 times now but no answer!

Decided to bite the bullet and register with DW.

Did so, but no idea how to get hold of the group buy!

Perhaps this is telloing me I should just put up with the lance I already have!  :D

Regards

Mike.

Thank you, Alex, for the link.

Its still not clear to me how I order from there. I've given up.

I have managed to get an answer from AB on the phone and have ordered the £30 deal direct from them.

Regards

Mike.

Good result Mike

Be sure and update us when received and fully tested!

Pics required... of course... with lots of thick snowfoam

Got the ab lance myself. Used it about 6 times now, cost 45 odd. Went out to use it last Sunday and nothing is working?? Not happy. Too busy at mo to dig out receipt. Not happy. Can't even see how I'm doing anything wrong as I had it fine for 6 washes, then nothing.. No foam coming out and it's making the jet wash shudder in fits and starts when it blurts out no foam just water.. Going back, not sure what or if I have a gauruntee

The little gauze filter in the end of the lance has probably become blocked, I am having a problem at the moment as my foam is very thin. Just google it, there is a very helpful video showing you how to take off the adjustable nozzle and then take out the gauze filter.

Here are the details but without the pics above:

Step 1 Take off connector (unscrew) (this will have either threadlock or PTFE tape)

Step 2 Unscrew the Stainless Steel threaded bar (this will have either threadlock or PTFE tape)

Step 3 There you can see the injector that uncrews out via a flat screwdriver, unscrew it and it comes out, check that there is no grit in the hole in the injector.

Step 4 Unscrew with a flat screwdriver

Step 5 Now its time to remove the plastic body, get a small screwdriver and push the metal peg through.

Step 6 Prise the plastic/metal fan blades off with a flat screw drive

Step 7 In a vice unscrew the foam end body (use a suitable spanner or adjustable spanner)

Step 8 Get a small screwdriver and insert in the small brass connector to reveal the metal gauze,if your lance is suffering from lack of foam this part will likely to be blocked with soap scum etc,a good soaking in a metal cleaner should do the trick

Step 9 Unscrew the black knob adjuster with a philips screwdriver

Step 10 Remove the rubber seal to prevent damage caused by furthur inspection of the lance

Step 11 Back in the vice with a adjustable spanner to remove the main part of the body

A quick check that all holes are not blocked with anything

Ok so now you have checked and cleaned the lance now its time to put it back together again..

This is the order from right to left on the strip down of the lance, from Karcher connector to the main body of the lance

Step 12 Some threadlock is required or PTFE tape to seal and lock the joints back together again,we will start with the main lance body

Step 13 Replace the rubber seal into the groove

Step 14 Replace the metal gauze into the brass connector

Step 15 Apply some threadlock or PTFE to the end brass connector thread and tighten

Step 15 Replace the black adjustable knob with a philips screwdriver

Step 16 Replace the black plastic/metal adjustable blades by pushing it on the brass end connector and it will click into place
Step 17 Replace the black plastic main body over the adjustable blades as pic

Step 18 Replace the metal peg into the black plastic body by just pusing it in

Step 19 Replace the injector by screwing it back in via a flat screwdriver

Step 20 Replace the steel bar into the foam lance main body with either threadlock or PTFE tape then replace the Karcher plastic connector onto the bar with PTFE and screwing it on tightly ensuring the Karcher plastic lugs are pointing upright to ensure the right vertical connection to your karcher gun/lance.

Ok that just about does it, this takes approx 10 minutes and is very easy to do,we thought we would post this prcedure on DW to help members to service and look after the lance they have.

Just thought i would update on this thread.... for your information:-

Looks like Autobrite Direct have finalised the inline filter addition for the Foam Lance.

I saw it demonstrated by Kevin and Clive at AD when i was last down visiting HQ.

Never caused me an issue in this regard; but it is hoped to reduce gauze failure/blockage.
