In a couple of weeks I'm taking the skoda on a Europe roadtrip which centres around Italy, Austria and the German Alpenstrasse.  It's basically why I bought the car.

 

Normally as a good boy scout I am a believer in proper paper maps, but although I've bought some, it's hard when passing through the edges of loads of countries to get good ones without taking a mountain of maps.  So, as the car came with SatNav (Amundson - as yet only used twice) I thought I ought to see if it can help.

 

Is there some way of taking the SD card out and uploading a route (I have the whole route plotted on google maps)? And once that's done is it possible to see the route marked on screen without having the directions actaully given to you? This is my first satnav - Am I being hopelessly optimistic here in expecting what it can do.  Now I know you're probably going to say 'read the manual' well unfortunately I have the patience of a goldfish - I'm really sorry I had a quick look but it's huge - I just couldn't face it. I have heard of people converting googlemaps routes into some kind of file format then uploading to the sat-nav. Can skoda amundson do this?

Nope, don't believe you can do that.

I'd recommend adding your waypoints as stored points of interest in advance, and if you give them all names starting with a number you'll have them all there in sequence.

Today I did a trip which went through some roadworks & my planned route kept being changed when the system picked up the traffic reports. The journey was a nightmare & I ended up being rerouted down farm tracks & through tiny villages.

Have you got Dynamic Routing selected in the Navigation Settings? If there are any disruptions to the planned route reported by the TMC, Dynamic Routing changes the route to avoid them.

OK, thanks for the replies. It seems a shame it can't plot routes. Even the vcard thing sounds pretty time consuming to sort out :(

Thanks for you post. Not sure about the dynamic routing but will check, seems that may well be the case.
