Cooling fan question

Featured Replies

I'm just curious what the score is with these. Everything is fine with car no issues other than ( maybe just me though! ) got the feeling the air con isn't as cold as it used to be. Ive watched a few YouTube vids testing the slow and fast fan speeds which I've done and all is well with the fans. However, I started the car this morning and ran it at idle for 40 minutes with compressor a/c running and both fans turning at slow speed. But at no point did they ever switch to fast speed. So at what temp do they run at the fast speed? I'm starting to think the fan control module is faulty.

Take it Kwik-Fit for a regas. Either that will restore the AC to Baltic, or you don't pay and you got a diagnostic point plus a free topup.

Didn't know Kwik fit did air con. I wouldn't say its rubbish it might just be me! The wife says its cold so it must be!! I just wondered if the fans were doing there thing because the engine was HOT and they never kicked onto fast speed.

So the temperature gauge never hit "hot" then? I thought that was the only time the fans went high.

That's what I thought. No both fans were running on slow speed right from cold. Gauge went up to 90 never above but they never sped up. That was with the a/c on. What I did do though was switched to econ mode, the fans and compressor stopped running as to be expected then the fans kicked in every so often. But again not on fast speed.

Sorry just reread your post read it wrong. Gauge never went over 90 so if they're not supposed to go on fast until very hot they look like they're working fine.

Was gonna say in the 4 years of owning mine, I've only ever seen the fans go into high speed mode once, and that was on a baking hot day towing a caravan up a long hill. Normally the low speed fans are enough.

I would get the gas levels checked by a good AC specialist.  They can tell you the quantity of gas recovered from the system (should be 750) and then refill accordingly

I did try a ez chill regas kit from halfords but its no better tbh. Great post from KenONeill regarding Kwik fit thanks buddy. Come pay day I'll take it down I think if it improves I'll be happy if it doesn't I shouldn't pay.

If you have a thermometer put the AC onto low and fix it onto the vent.  Good way to test out what the vent air temp is
