Bug Removal?

Featured Replies

Ok, here's something which is current, and another thread prompted me to raise it.

As most people on here will testify too, during the summer months the front end of my Superb looks like I've driven through a insect farm. When it comes to washing, I don't use a pressure washer and tend to pre-treat the dead insect carcasses with APC. This doesn't always work though, loosens them a bit but it still requires some manual effort.

Has anyone tried a dedicated bug remover such as Einszett 1Z or Chemical Guys Bug & Tar Wash? Product obviously needs to be wax safe to prevent having to reapply.

I haven't tried any of those two but I use Auto Finesse Citrus Power before a wash. Spray on, dwell and agitate with a detailing brush before power washing off. Works for me.

Thanks. will take a look at this.

A wet towel..very wet,  placed over them for half an hour...then they wash straight off

No need for any products...I am from Yorkshire after all!!

^^ Chris's idea is a good one but keeping a towel wet for an hour is hard in summer and how many towels do you need for your bonnet edge, grille, wing mirrors, headlamps etc....

Iz is THE BEST, trust me, but given its designed to be good at removing organic material, and wax might be considered a organic material as well, I suspect it does affect durability of the product especially if used in a stronger solution. I always think that longevity of LSP is a bit of a red herring to anyone talking about vehicle detailing as I bet 99% never leave their car alone long enough for it to be an issue, except in winter where bug removal probably isnt a priority or issue ;)

By the way, a WEAK solution of Bilt Hamber Surfex HD is also a very good pre-soak if applied by a hand pump etc. Just DONT leave to dry on the paint in sunlight....

What product are you recommending?

the Einszett 1z that Chris mentioned in the OP... which I suspect he links as I recommended it in an earlier thread here about bug mess.

I just use a bug sponge after washing the car, seems to do the trick every time for me.

Tend to wash the car every week so the bug3ers don't get chance to etch themselves onto the car!

Looks like.......
