Eibach coilovers for Fabia

Featured Replies

I was planning on buying some of these until I emailed Eibach and they replied with this-

Hi' date='

Thank you for your enquiry.

Unfortunately the Fabia kit has been discontinued- we have let our dealers

know, but I will have to let Julian at Balance know again I think!

The reason they have decided to discontinue it, they think there wont be

enough demand- initially the plan was to develop the kit and it would fit

both the Fabia and the Polo, but apparently there wasn't enough drop on one,

and they couldn't justify it being made solely for the one vehicle. It's a

shame as in this country the Fabia is popular- unfortunately they go on

whats popular in Germany.

Sorry we couldn't help you.[/quote']Fair enough :grumpy: So I was just letting you know, because there are some companies that still advertise these on websites etc...:)

Now then, are the KW Variant 1s any good? Pity they're

can't believe they have a product that sells, and they are discontinuing it! hhmmmmm

KW's are very good. A friend of mine had them on his Ibiza and I found the ride very good, not to harsh and handled very well.

The rear arent coil overs (on any of them) they have a shorter spring with an adjustable collar that sits under it that you set the height with.

Just had mine fitted today, nice peice of kit!

This is one of the problems for the fabia there just isn't enough demand for tuning products :( oh well atleast we still have them wonderful *un-PC* mods

Thanks for the info Lummox. So to adjust them, you screw the collar down or up? Will the spring rate stay the same?

Mike- you mean you have the KWs fitted?

The spring rate stays the same, the vehicle goes up and down. Wind the collar up and the vehicle drops and visa versa.

Im probably sounding like a right thicky :o but how does the spring rate stay the same? If the adjustable collar is screwed upwards to lower the car, isnt that going to compress the spring....

No the cars weight is staying the same and so is gravity so the car just moves.

Yup - Ross is spot on as I would always expect. :)

On mine the distance from the top of the strut to where the spring sits remains constant. However, its this foot the spring sits in which is adjustable with the screw, so this is what sets the height - the spring properties remain unaffected - It simply changes how close the arch is to your tyre. :D Hope this pic explains it? :)

I get the way the fronts work; when the collar is screwed downwards the springs move down the strut and the shock 'sags' with it to lower the car. (I hope im right lol)

I think I understand the backs a bit more now too  Just dont want to buy something for 650quid and not understand what they do or how they work!

One more thing- when dialing in the travel, is there an indicator so you know every wheel is at the correct height and is it easy? (Apart from taking wheels off)

Thanks (again) for the info Jason and Ross.

There isnt an indicator, usually you measure the gap between the wheel and the body.

Yup - no indicator on mine. Case of adjusting and dropping the car until you're happy with the ride height - also should involve an element of driving, with lock to lock cornering, maybe at a little pace to check for arch rubbing. I was lucky and guessed a height which turned out to be perfect for usual driving but just a couple of mm too low for quick cornering as I used to buzz the arches. :o Gonna be setting a slightly higher height this time.

Do these kits totally transform the handling and are they much better than just changing to Eibach springs using OEM dampers???

When you guys lower the car by adjustment on coilovers, does the camber change??

This will inveriably lead to uneven tyre wear wont it???

PS How much do these kits cost fitted???

Camber doesnt change much, gives slightly more negative.

Is it worth having the tracking checked, just in case? I'll be putting 17s on at the same time.......

I advise allways having a four wheel alignment check after suspension work.

More costs  Well, thats what the credit card's for I suppose (with 0% interest ;))

I just hope I dont get into any difficulties fitting the kit. Im thinking with the car being only 3 months old, the 'old' suspension should come off easier than if I waited  Ive swapped the springs only on my old car so have some experience and Ive got the guide that Jon TDI made

Piece of cake? Or not.....lol

Have people sold on their old suspension to non vRS Fabia owners?- im guessing it fits?

Thanks

Dampers will fit but the vRS springs wont be any use to anyone else.

Camber isn't altered to any great degree, but I went for an alignment session anyway, as you really should with any suspension height changing mod (i think?)

handling transformed? uhm, yep :D Rock hard around bends, but also harder on bumps, so care must be taken at times.

My kit cost
