APR's Carbonio Cold Ram Air Intake - anyone tried it on vRS MK2?

Featured Replies

It obviously wont fit without buying more hoses to connect it up to the intake hard pipe work.

I havent seen one on a VRS but have on a Golf TSI - it does look neat in the engine bay though.

Still to me seems ridiculously pricey for what it essentially a fancy carbon fibre box with an air filter inside.

hoses are easy, smaller battery would be a bigger job than fitting a few 2.5" hoses.

So, for something that costs nearly 190 quid, you need additional hoses + clamps - £20 ish and move/replace to battery too.

So its more like £250/£300 by the time its fitted properly (I dont know how much a battery + new support bracket is)

Its probly just me but thats crazy money for something thats a few % more efficient than the standard intake.

I posted it as I liked the idea, very simple, short pipes, shorter intake path, looks neat in the engine bay.

How much are glass fibre mats and epoxy again?

Problem is I know absolutely nothing about working with fibreglass and making pretty things out of it. I suppose The Toobe Univesity could help ?

Induction kit is one thing, then brake cooling ducts are crying to be made as well...

The original ITG carbon body intake is probably what you are after Jabo, that was a real piece of kit, far closer to the Carbonio.

Brake cooling is definitely a great idea for track work, I managed to get my 323mm discs and Brembo's smoking at Combe and I saw how you mullered your stock set up on one of your outings. Upgraded pads will stand the test but whilst you are out there anything that keeps efficiency up is a benefit. I don't know how much beyond 20 minutes my setup would last without even better pads.

Battery tweak needed

I like that.. But would it be to much work with the battery

Sparkly, that is more like what I'd imagine really, the awesome GTI one looks really good as well :). One problem though... add £100 notes and you got yourself tailored stage 1... For me, thise intakes (less filter element ) are not worth more than £50 I am affraid. Otherwise bang for buck is pathetic. Hence DIY jobbie idea, scene tax is waay to high for me to even consider paying.

That's why you should jump on it, when you get to buy one second hand at half the going rate, like I did ;)

The Pipercross done as a member did before seemed fine and performed well for him.

(sounds as rough as boars **** to me, but looks the part.)

supposedly these dont produce much extra power and in some cases choke a little bit

but that is how i expected my intake to sound, nice and throaty not the way it did!

i was actually looking at one today, its on ebay for around £40, its a bit beaten though but could be fixed.

Does anybody know what size the 90 degree pipe is?

70mm as far as im aware.

Are there any dyno curves (vs. standard) available for this intake setup?
