New owner from paisley 1.9SDI

Featured Replies

I bought a 1.9 SDI a couple of days ago.  Its a 2003 model and I got it really cheap, going to be using it for a run around so was looking for something cheap and hopefully reliable.

It has 154000 on the clock and no service history etc which is a bit of a worry for me but it was really cheap and rove well.

Previous owner replaced brakes etc.

Question is, what would you guys be doing next, a cam belt change, service (although the fluids seem to have been topped up well).

Inside is a bit rough so putting it in for a valet today.

Also noticed that the biting point seems fairly high but I remember the same thing in a yaris that we used to have, is this a sign or is it fairly normal?

ALso, anything else that I should be checking out?

Anyway, Im actually really enjoying the torque of a diesel and fingers crossed it lasts.

If you can't guarantee when the cambelt was done or it was last serviced then yes you need to look at doing both.

In regards to the clutch it may also need the brake fluid changing. The clutch shares the same fluid and also needs to be bled at the same time. It could hopefully just be old fluid, moisture or air that's causing it.

Those SDI engines are rock solid so should last a while longer yet. You can normally run them on Veg oil too depending which fuel pump they have. Although this is becoming less and less advantageous due to rising veg oil prices.
