Fitting front sensors... Which side should the wiring go to the front bumper?

Featured Replies

Hi

As above really... Should the wiring to the bumper go down the drivers side or passenger side? I'm guessing it's important to get it right or the sensors will display the wrong side on the columbus?

Thanks

Phil

Phil

where did you get the wiring from?

It was included in a kit from carsystems. It's all genuine as far as I can tell.

Go from behind the glovebox into the engine bay behind the battery.

Run the cables across the back of the engine bay and down the driver's side.

There's a mounting point for the connector on the washer fluid bottle.

Sensor cable runs across the bumper crash bar from off-side to near-side.

With the bumper off tape the sensors on to a piece of wood and place on too if the crash bar to check the display is the correct way round before fitting the sensors to the bumper.

Thanks KBPhoto. That's the way I've done it, so phew!

Incidentally, the kit has some spare wires. I've established that the two spare wires from the switch plug are for illumination and ground.

The other two I'm struggling with are at the control module end of the loom. There are two loose wires with metal ends which I'm guessing need to be added to the existing rear sensor wiring, but I have no idea where! Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks again.

I made my own looms for Optical and Park Assist 1 & 2, which I ran down the passenger side

Do those two wires go to the additional speaker for the front sensors?

Do those two wires go to the additional speaker for the front sensors?

That should have a connector on it for the speaker.

Mine had four wires from the switch: 2 ground/earth, power & illumination. Some kits require wire swaps between the ASR & PDC buttons though.

There should also be a twisted pair going to the CAN wire and another wire going to a switched live in the fuse board.

What colour are your wires and what do the connectors look like?

Pictures?

Just retread the post and think they may be short wires and go to the rear only.

Could be replacement wires for the rear speaker (base of B pillar passenger side).

Adamal: are there any wire swaps in the rear sensor connector needed when adding front sensors to existing rears?

Thanks for your thoughts.

The two wires in question are sticking out of the loom next to the multi-plug which connects the front sensors to the control module. They are very short, which makes me think they are supposed to be added in to one of the plugs which is already there.

I'm going to use my multimeter today to trace where they're from and see if that helps.

IIRC there are three plugs in the PDC controller: front sensors, rear sensors and power/CAN/etc.

I suspect it links to that one, but can't think why.

Thanks, you were right. Turns out they were from pins 1 & 6 of the switch.

All connected and working, although I've noticed two things...

The button switches on all sensors, not just front.

When selecting reverse, all sensors come on, however when coming out of reverse they no longer switch off again.

The second one may be a coding issue?

Phil

That is normal that all come on when the button is pressed

Perfectly normal.

Park nose on to an object, start engine and engage reverse. Or back back to a wall, switch on and press the button.

All sensors come on no matter what.

  • Author

Thanks. Is it normal that they don't go off when de-selecting reverse?

It's awkward because there isn't a label file in vcds so coding is a bit of trial and error!

Phil

what module have you got?

it is normal, you go back then go forwards sometimes. The Optical illustration will go once you drive over a certain speed or when you press the button

^^^ What he said!!

Ah ha! In that case, it's finally complete, re-assembled and working!

I have 1Z0 919 475 F

Thanks for your help chaps.

Phil

Glad its fitted, well done. Great feeling isnt it...
