My Mk1 (2005) Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

Hi everybody, hope you're all well!

As a few of you know, I purchased a 55 plate vRS a few weeks ago.  Since then I've had some work done on the car, all of which was carried out by JKM Performance in Portsmouth.

Firstly, the exhaust needed replacing due to it being weathered, so I went for a Jetex oval-tip cat-back.  Here's some photos of Jim and Sean at JKM installing it...

The Jetex (model: 41-H5TR) really compliments the car - it almost retains the look of the standard exhaust, but looks better in my opinion.

It's the non-resonated version, so there's a nice 'hum' on idle and it sounds great whilst accelerating.

It's not too loud whilst cruising and you can't hear it at all with music playing.  It doesn't stick out too far, either :)

The rear bump-stops needed replacing and so did the wishbone bushes.

The bump-stops were replaced with OEM units, but the wishbone bushes were replaced with some SuperPro units!

What a difference the SuperPro bushes have made, the front of the car feels totally different now - completely solid!

They're highly recommended if any of you are in the position to change your bushes!

JKM did a full wheel-alignment, so that probably helped massively, too.

I do a lot of motorway driving (I film trackdays and sprints all over the country), so I decided to get an OEM cruise control system fitted.  This works really well and as expected.

There was no evidence of the cambelt and waterpump being changed at all, so I decided to do both of these things for peace of mind.

The aircon system was re-gassed, the pollen filter was changed and I had a Pipercross panel filter installed - why?  Read on ;)

Jim @ JKM is, basically, a master tuner.  He's built some immense cars in the past - one to note is a 180MPH+ Ford Fiesta!  Known as 'The Trolley' - it has been in Fast Ford a fair few times.  His personal Octavia is in bits currently and he's going for big power!  I hope to make a mini documentary about it soon, so watch this space.

ANYWAY - Jim/JKM Performance is a REVO dealer - so I went ahead and got a Stage 1 remap whilst the cruise control was being fitted and programmed.  We decided to replace all four coilpacks just to be safe as one of them had been replaced at some point, but not the others?  They are sometimes the first things to go after remapping, so it made sense.

The REVO remap has completely transformed the car!  It has gone from the standard 180 to approximately 210BHP.  It's a fully safe remap on the standard engine - the only thing non-standard is the Pipercross panel filter.  It's running ~1.2bar of boost.

If you're thinking of getting a remap - just do it and go REVO!  I was giggling like a child all the way home - no doubt you will be too if you decide to invest in one :D

A couple of engine bay photos...

So yes, this is my Mk1 Octavia so far, and I'm absolutely loving it!  Here she is sitting outside JKM in Portsmouth when I went to pick the car up after all the work.

If you're based in the South (or beyond!) and want the best people working on your car, give JKM a ring.  I don't really trust anybody else!

Other things that I want to do include having the wheels refurbished and the front bumper needs some TLC as well - all in good time, though :)

Cheers for now!

EDIT:  Hopefully the photos aren't too big?
