Engine oil

The dealer reckons Castrol Edge fully synthetic 10w40. Is this essential or what else can I use, any other make?

Anything that meets VW spec 507.00 (but not 505.01 or 505.00 as you have a DPF).

100% as above, make sure whatever oil you use has VW 507.00 on the bottle.

I've never seen a 10W40, all the VW 507.00 oil I've seen has been 5W30.

I've used the quantum stuff from TPS and ECP own brand Triple QX (though they do two versions and only one meets 507.00).  Choice was purely based on cost, TPS had it on offer once and ECP the other time.

I use shell helix ultra 5w30 going to be buying it again in the next few weeks too for another oil change.

I think most dealers use longlife stuff.

507.00 is long life spec, therefore any oil you use will be long life.

I use Castrol Mangantec 5W30 C3 which meets the spec for a petrol VRS.
