dashboard warning lights

hi all, i noticed the other day that a few warning lights dont work on my dash. when i had the clocks apart i found that the previous owner has snapped out the led lights!! now, can i just solder some normal 12v leds in or do they have to be special leds ??? also if its not a diy job is there anyone here with the know how who can help me out. cheers guys
