Negative Camber on Citigo?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I've had my citigo Greentech Elegance now for about a year and I've noticed that the inside of my two front tyres are wearing faster than than the middle or outside. Had them measured yesterday and and the wear indicators said the same for both front tyres: outside 4mm, middle 4mm but inside 3mm. I've been told that this could suggest my car has negative camber due to hitting a pot hole or something but then others say it might just be the way the Citigo is set up. I was wondering if anyone else could make comment on how their tyres are doing or give me some helpful info?

Thanks all  :notme:

There's only one way to settle whether or not your car has more than the design negative camber. Get a full alignment check.

Unless it also has adjustable camber (one or more of adjustable top mounts, maybe cam bolts on the strut to stub axle mounts, adjustable length wishbones) hitting a pothole or kerb would be unlikely to move the camber (toe yes, castor maybe, but not camber) because the wishbone and track rod would take most of the stress.

get the alignment checked, its more likely that your car is set with too much toe-out (the front wheels pointing slightly away from each other) although only a 1mm difference when the tyres are half worn is not a major issue. the legal requirement is 1.6mm over the central 3/4 of the tyre tread.

Recommend the Hunter wheel alignment it's more accurate :)

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I got a wheel alignment check done by a garage who use one of the good laser systems. It wasn't the Hunter one but it was a good one. I think it's called John Bean. Turned out that the front and back camber was out left and right by a few hundredths of a degree and the Toe was also out on the front left and right by a few tenths of a degree!! They corrected it all and only cost £25. The car feels more planted on the road now and the steering seems better than before. Less effort to turn it sometimes. So a good result. Thanks all :-)

Good result. Glad it's all good now :)
