Clutch failure at 21000 miles

Featured Replies

My boss's 62 plated Superb has apparently got a clutch problem at only 21k miles. It started as a judder setting off, then became a squeak which has got worse over time. Local (non-Skoda) garage has diagnosed an impending bearing failure.

Anyone heard of this before? It's certainly not something I've come across.

Why has he taken it to a non-Skoda garage?

Don't give Skoda an excuse to wriggle out of a warranty claim, get it into a main dealer and diagnosed under warranty ASAP.

He's doing that now.

Just because the failure has happened at low mileage doesn't mean the work will be covered by warranty. You can see off a clutch release bearing very quickly if you ride the clutch pedal. I've seen one owner wreck the clutch in less than 300miles (there was no doubt - we saw her drive).

That'll have been my Monster In Law then.  :dull:

Update: I've had no specific details but I've heard they are covering it under warranty.

Clutch plate retaining ring had failed, and was cutting through the clutch body. There was another Skoda in at the same time with the same fault.

Repaired at DM Keith Hull under warranty.

He's a lucky boy, clutches are made of cardboard these days and anyone who rides one will burn one rather rapidly,

I'm surprised Skoda held their hands up on it, normally it's not covered by anybody after 3k
