Wobble at speed

Featured Replies

Hi Folks, I've had my car since new, its now covered 144K. I had a 4 wheel alignment done last Saturday and an MOT on Monday, it passed no advisories. The problem I've got is that when getting to 60mph and above the car has a wobbling feel to it. Nothing through the steering. Also at town speed you can hear a cyclic drone, as best as I can describe a 'wha wha wha' type sound. The front tyres are new, just a couple of weeks old, the rears were changed last year and only covered about 10K, plenty of life in them. I had the alignment done because I thought it might be sawtoothing as the inner tread felt out of shape, as they do with sawtoothing. As the car past its MOT on Monday, I presume that the rear suspension bushes are ok, i.e. rear track rod arms etc. Could my symptoms just be caused but sawtoothed tyres ? Many thanks Craig

I guess, thinking about it as a starting point, I should get both rear wheels checked for balance

OK this does not help you much but I have the exact same problem. Just had the four wheel alignment done but have now changed wheels (back to summer tyres). I think that the problem is either that the wheels have not sat properly on the hub or that the tyres are sawtoothed or slightly deformed during storage and that this is causing the problem. I aim to swap each wheel with a spare and see whether I can get it to disappear this weekend.

Right, took the car in to have the rears balanced as I noticed the O/S was missing its stick on weights. They found that the N/S needed 35 grams and the O/S needed 75 grams. They also showed me that both tyres have deformed. This was probably down to the alignment being out. So, I now need to purchase two new tyres, shame really coz the two on the rear have loads of tread left :'(
