Octavia climate control

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've just got a 2008 Octavia diesel and not sure if climate control is working correctly.

Following the manual I have it set to 'auto' mode and can turn both dials down to 16 degrees or 'Lo' but in the warm weather yesterday the air throughout the vents seemed to be about the same as opening the windows - would have expected the air temp to get rather chilly at only 16 degrees.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like the air conditioning isn't working.

If you've just bought it take it back to the garage for them to fix. Hopefully it just needs regassing.

If you've had it a while, take it to Kwik-Fit; they do an "if it's not colder you don't pay" offer on regases (and use automated kit so they can't, ah, foul up).

Thanks both - I actually bought it from a local garage (I know owner very well) and got 30 day warranty.  I'm taking it in on Monday for this and to fix driver's seat height adjustment as it hardly moves.   (he did offer cushions!!!)

I just didn't want to look an idiot re the climate control.  There isn't an AC button.  Colder today so tried turning up temp and that's fine.  Is there an actual air con unit in these models do you know?

Really like this car - lots of extras like auto windscreen wipers, power socket in boot, 'secret' compartments.  Will certainly look at a brand new one when finances improve.

The air con defaults to on. If you press the econ button it turns the air con off.

Yes make sure "econ" is off, falling that there is a problem with the air con system. As has been said, the first step to troubleshoot this is always to ensure the system is gassed up (and retaining the gas)

With VCDS you can check the pressure in the system as well as the operation of the compressor, fans, flaps etc.

Ensure air-con is on.  Set temperature to minimum, air to upper vents only and put fan on max.?  Is air into car then cold?  If not then air-con would appear to be faulty.  Perhaps only a re-gas required.
