What's the PID like?

Featured Replies

Hi, first time in the Citigo section so sorry if this is old hat:

SWMBO has just bought a 2nd hand Citigo Sport from the local dealer, I pick it up on Friday for her. Looks like it's not coming with the PID thing though (guess the old owner must have decided they could make some cash selling it on themselves, as it was standard equipment with the sport?).

Just after people's opinions on whether it's worth £280/300 to treat her and buy one for the car, or if it's not really worth it at full price?

She won't really be needing sat-nav much as we'll be doing longer journeys in the Fabia, the bluetooth could be helpful however. As for the rest of the 'info' and features I'm not even sure what it does?

Shame they took it, because I find it a real nice add on.

So much information - outside temp, time, mpg, miles to go till I need fuel, and more.

All available on the dashboard, but you have to scroll through each display one by one.

I love playing the beat by best mpg game on the run to work and back, and I find watching the mpg stats helps me realise when I am being heavy footed so I have learnt to be quiet efficient through its display!

The satnav comes in handy to avoid jams as I too dont go out of my normal route too often, but avoid snarl ups with it. If not that its a useful indicator to arrival time.

I also use the phone via bluetooth daily and ALL my music comes via an SD card slot in the side.

Then add in, it is battery backed, so I can use it in the wifes car for the satnav on long journeys, and it pays for itself.

I am looking for a decent way to mount it in the wifes car at the moment.. a windscreen sucker is about £20+ so a bit pricey for the little it would get used..

I would rate the PID pretty highly. Good sat nav, upgrades the audio to MP3 compatible and bluetooth.

Not had any issues in SWMBO's car in the just over a year we have had it.

It's great and wouldn't be without it :)

I was just thinking the other day when part ex' time came for the Citigo what would I do with the PID,hand it back with the car or hold onto it and sell it on EBay etc, decided I would hand it over with the car.

I really like PID. I use it all the time when I'm allowed to use the car, however short the journey. I have loads of music in it on SD Card and often use it to stream stuff from BBC Iplayer Radio when. also use bluetooth more than I though I would for calls, just for home soon calls etc. Plus as @Stooz said I also love all the etc geeky info. Having said that, most of that info is available on the dash also, so it's only repeating whats there. SatNav ok, but it does offer 'interesting' routes at times. Plus visual display for parking sensors is useful. Overall I think it's great. Only downside is deciding when I park up how much of it to take out of car. Depending where I am do I leave whole thing, take PID and leave stand or remove all evidence that its there. On the other hand, my wife who uses car most at the moment rarely even takes it out of the house with her.

When I sell my Elegance the PID goes with it, it was part of the car :notme:

So the OP should ask the dealer for the PID that goes with his Sport, give him one FOC or deduct the cost off the screen price.

Don't be tempted to buy a used one, I think they are registered to the original car so swapping to another could be tricky.

I agree, for me it would be a deal breaker,no PID with the car then no sale.

If the "Sport" had a pid as "standard" equipment then it should be there and sold as it should be with its "standard" equipment.

As someone else said ask for it especially if you are paying the going rate for year/model/trim etc!

And the pid is very handy especially the Bluetooth connection (IMO) for hands free and all the other bits it has :)

To be honest I wouldn't buy that Sport as it has no PID as it comes standard as already said. They should supply one FOC.

Cheers guys, seems the PID gets a lot of love!

I'll bring it up with the dealer tomorrow and see if they can source one or offer a discount on the car considering it's standard spec. I'm not going to hold my breath, but it's worth a shot.

Can't pull out over it as SWMBO has totally fallen in love with the car and finding another wouldn't be an option for her. I can kick up a fuss though  :D

You are well entitled to ask for a replacement PID,if the previous owner removed the alloys and put on a cheap set of steel rims you would not accept that, why should you not get the PID with the car?.You can only ask,if they say no get Skoda UK involved.

How did you get on?

I have a PID Garmin in my Citigo but I do not think it is as good as a Motorola TK bluetooth with all the add ons and a 7" all singing Sat nav .I have replaced the radio with a Blaupunkt bluetooth unit you can still use the PID but never find need to use it bit of a gimmick really in my opinion.

The UK standard radio is a bit rubbish you have the choice of a slightly better radio with DAB 2 in Germany but his is not a patch on the Blaupunkt.

Must agree, only thing I use mine for is bluetooth connection to phone and that has it's problems and very occasionally car info.

As a media player it doesn't understand play lists and as a satnav not very user friendly. Prefer to use my phone which I can keep updated with static and mobile cameras easily plus it understands play lists.

What radio did you use and how was the fitting of it?

Depends what your used to, it's not a bad unit, the navigation can be a little slow at reacting to turns/instructions in built up areas but on the whole very useable.

Mixed success with the dealer. Managed to get a PID included. But we don't get the car until Tuesday now as they never 'had time' to get it through the workshop for inspection (coincidentally the salesman was/is off work Friday-Tuesday).

And they wouldn't even knock 20 quid of the £160 spare wheel kit (don't want the slime gunk it's got in the back). So I'm all over eBay this week methinks.

Overall it's annoying, but I'm happy enough with the outcome. Just need Tuesday to come round now :)
