Porsche rear brakes

Featured Replies

Been reading up a lot on these as I can pick some up off a boxter S for very cheap. Just wanting to know if anyone has any first hand experience with then on their car, a lot of people say they aren't any good because of the clamping force and other things I don't understand but I'd rather hear from someone who's actually fitted the rears off a porsche to the front of a car before

Carry on reading then!!

I looked at this a while back

It's the fronts you want, it's all about the piston sizes!

The fronts are expensive for a reason and the rears are cheap for a reason. Be careful when buying fronts that they are not actually rears!

There's a nice tarox set up in the sale section presently. Other options are LCR Brembos and Alfa Brembos

a couple of the lads on the Vagcars forum I am on are running the rears on the front of their Mk2 golfs and said they are brilliant thow. A friend of mine has them on his 1.8t Mk2 golf and he uses that in track, can't fault them he said. Having a go of it next time I see him so I can see how they feel.

Like I say, rather have someone who has actually experienced them rather than people just writing stats on the internet because they 'shouldn't' work. I'm running 256's on the rear of my car with the standard 288's on the front and everyone on here said they wouldn't work because off brake unbalancing, that turned out to be a load of *******s as well because they work 10x better than the 232's I had on.

So I'd rather not 'carry on reading' and have someone who has actually done it give me their opinion ;) haha

How they feel on a mk2 has no relation to how they'll feel on a fat ass fabia dude. Different master cylinders etc.

yeh their will be a difference in the weight but with a 1.8t lump in one their surely won't be that much difference in weight? Either way I'd still like to hear if anyone with a fab has put them on and see what their opinions are. Even if they had the same stopping power as my brakes did now that would be good enough for me, 288's look tiny behind my 17" turinis

I read years ago think it was on ukmkiv's that its down to the piston sizes.

As they are rear calipers they are rather small and are not upto the job of working on the front.

Yes you can use them with 312mm discs on the front but they will be pony

There will still be a fair difference mate a mk2 Golf comes in at around 1000kg give or take, I can't see the 1.8t adding that much weight.

Most people upgrade the front callipers from 239mm (small bumper) or 256mm (big bumper) to Corrado G60 callipers which are 280mm if they stay 4 stud or if they go 5 stud 288mm from the mk3.
