Where does this actually connect to apart from the handbrake cable, I think mine is lying loose!

Do you mean the actual clip for the cable?

Its about 2 inches long, its a piece of thick shaped wire with a hook on end for the handbrake cable and the other locates -somewhere- on the chassis.

 

I think its job is to keep the cable tucked away.

If its the clip I'm thinking you mean, there is one on each side. You push the ends together and they sit inside a hole in the rear beam. I'll try and post a pic up.

Mine came out when I changed my fuel filter today, if you look towards the sill, directly opposite where the filter sits, there's a rubber bung with a hole in it, push the flat end into that and then turn it so the bottom of the U hook points downwards and that secures it in place

Both of my clips are in that recess on the rear beam. Have been since I bought it(7 years).

Ah after a closer look there are 2 seperate clips on each side, one for the beam as mentioned.  The other on the fuel filter side locates into a hole in the chassis near the filter inlet and then other end on the cable!

Yep, baffled me for a few minutes the other day, not immediately obvious is it!
