  • So funny that the criticism on this thread comes from non-vRS owners....... ;-)

  • Why else would anybody buy a Fabia vRS? Certainly not for its sleek eye turning dynamic body style. Or its luxurious interior. Or its top speed (a few days ago at 6am I gave it a buzz along a motorway

Does anyone know the power of these replacement cave engines with modified cthe parts in? Are they the same as original cave engines. More or less due to reducing oil consumption.

I was told when I had mine fitted it had to have a new map for the new engine.

I'm having issues with mine where the dealer maintains that it's been mapped and won't carry out warranty work.

Were you able to get proof that a re-map was done when the engine was changed?

Would be grateful for any info. Pete

Me and girlfriend are going to do a Stopwatch speed test 0-60 on Sunday when the vrs is warmed up on a quiet road what do you think the time will be in d(might try s as well)thanks (weather permitting as I don't want to have an accident.ha ha.

Dougle03,

If the Dealer maintains your car has been Mapped,  was it them that sold you it.

So did they check before selling,  did they update the ECU with the latest from Skoda ?

Did they reset everything on the car to Factory setting, XDS, Brake Assist & Steering Assist?

This has been an issue with various Used vRS,  but then the Dealers take in trade ins & cars from Trade & Auctions & sell them and did not check the ECU

..............................

Re replacement engines under Warranty, & the latest Skoda ECU update,

the Dealership that did the Warranty Work should have all the information on work done at that point.

Replacement Engine & ECU Update & Breather Valve/Pipe Mod.

The Dealer that took the Faulty Car, Diagnosed the Fault, Applied to Skoda for Warranty work,

missed it had been Remapped are responsible & the Owner that signed a Declaration if asked to.

That was then, the Engine & ECU map in now is what a Dealer Fitted, Applied and were paid for doing.

Best get Trading Standards or Legal Advice if the Seller will not take the  car back

. Or if Skoda are not prepared to do / pay foor more work after one of their Franchised Dealers did the last Work.

thanks for this - Could ve very useful if the seller proves difficult.

Right now, I would accept a full refund and walk away!!  :|

Dougle03,

I had no paperwork for the update, only that the engine had been changed under warranty and my service book was stamped.

Going back to op's first post petrol brands can make a big difference to performance. My Clio feels wheezy at high rpm on BP ultimate but on Shell v power it revs much more freely.

Evo mag did a test before with cars on rr before and after refuelling and the bigger the engine cc the bigger the difference was even between similar octane rated fuels.

His car is recommended by the manufacturer to run on Super Unleaded 98 ron.

UK 'Super Unleaded' from Esso, BP Ultimate (uk), Sainsbury are minimum 97 ron.

only Tesco Momentum 99

& Shell V- Power Nitro are minimum 99 Ron.

They run even better on 100-102 ron as are readily available on mainland Europe

& at double the price in the UK.

95 Ron is just not worth using in a Twincharger if it costs only £2.25 extra for a tank of Tesco Momentum which can be 100 ron sometimes,

but is always going to be a minimum 99 ron which is obviously a higher octane than 97 or 98 ron.

I'd not do it on a public highway personally but it's up to you.

I used a smartphone app on a private, concrete road and got 6.5-6.75secs.

leobella,

After you time the Standing start as you do them. Seeing what times you get in 'D' or with Manual changes.

Maybe try.

Stop, TC off, Gearstick to Manual 1,

 Floor it,

Do not change gear manually until before the redline in 4th @ about 100 mph. then change to 5th.

(you are letting the DSG do the up changes, you only change to go to 5th.)

..........

If it breaks,

then it was your choice to try, please do not blame me.

As for the fuel one has to remember that ECU has a "knock map". This table is used to adjust the ignition timing. The more advanced the more power you get. Too advanced and detonation occurs. Too hot and detonation occurs so more fuel ECU pumps in at top end to cool down the proceedings.

RON number is practically useless as it is measured at low loads on test rigs. MON number is of much more interest as it is measured at high load conditions.

What it tells you is fuel resistance to detonation and has absolutely nothing to do with how "powerful" fuel is :).

Having said that, if engine ECU is capable of doing so it can produce more power from higher MON number fuel than the lower one as it'd be able to advance the ignition more and/or run leaner as well.

Bear in mind that this is a longish process and one fuel tank of good stuff might not show any changes - I do not know how long ECU needs to update the knock table. Should be fine after second-third tank I'd have thought but if somebody has better info you are welcome to post it here :)

Fuel Spec sheets if you are interested below:

IME the change when going from 99 ron to 102 ron takes as long as it takes to get the fuel through the pipe and the engine using the new fuel.

If i am down to 30 mile range left on the 99 ron, & put in 102 ron, it is very noticeable that it is on the higher octane within 10-20 miles,

and the difference in 40 miles is very noticeable which is the point of using the higher octane (MON) really.

That is even with a standard car, or one with a map that suits different Octanes.

the APR Switchable Map 'Programme Switching', is a good idea, but obviously no use for CTHE engines / ECU.

You should have tried it at over 140mph, this is when fun starts! On standard suspension it feels like wheel no longer are in contact with the road. Suffice to say I did not stay at those speeds for long despite empty German Autobhans were calling me loudly!

P.S. It is a funny feeling when you travelling white knuckled with 200 BPM at 140mph in stock Fabia MK2 vRS and suddenly there as a loud woosh and something zooms past you as if you were standing still LOL

Exactly! One doesn't buy twincharger vRS to stately drive around with frowned forehead sneering derisively at the sight of anyone actually accelerating any faster than asthmatic tortoise or manoeuvring even marginally briskier than fully loaded oil tanker B) .

My very favourite bit about the flooring the Twincharger is,

as you pull away and blow out a cloud of soot,

they think you are in a Diesel like them & they know they have more Torque. but better try a bit harder.

then harder, and harder, and they are still not with you.

Then they try again at the next chance when you have to slow down. They will be up your jacksy or alongside trying to get the jump on you.

Then they have to resort to Under Passes and the likes,   they still have not grasped what is happening.

I had a Focus up my jacksie on the weekend. The speed limit suddenly jumped up 20kph, and I had been travelling steadily for about 40kph when I decide to catch up all of those 20kph in a millisecond. Result: a black cloud big enough to envelop at least two cars,

You see, a red line a day keeps soot away - never seen any soot from my pipes and they are staying surprisingly clean I must admit :)

Ah But.............

You bought a CTHE with the new Engine Management.

So you got the Engine in your Skoda that when put in the Seat, & which they Officiall reduced the Official CO 2 Emissions from 148 g/km

to 139 g/km.

& they gave it an Official Better Economy and higher Top Speed, making it the same as the CAVE VW & Audi already had,

So the SEAT Ibiza Cupra owner pays a little less VED  but does not get the same pleasure of Blowing Soot,

(The vRS CTHE owner still pays the higher VED)

or being part of the Oil User Lottery.

Ah But.............     You bought a CTHE with the new Engine Management

True, looks like they managed to sort that one too with CTHE revision.

So basically the Skoda also got the Greener / Meaner performance,

(it got it first, the problem was the Official Kerb Weights of the Estate & Hatch were incorrect for 2 years already, June 2010- 2012 & the CTHE Engines being installed)

&

it is just that the VWG allowed Seat to announce it, because they were launching a Face Lift Model.

&

Skoda were not allowed to do any Publishing of new EU Emission Figures..

& the stuff from Journalist & Salespeople,

about a vRS Estate being 5 kg lighter Kerb Weight than a Hatch was rubbish, they were 70 kg Heavier,

& the 5 Door Polos & A1's , & 3 Door Ibizas were Heavier than the First Official Figures.

The vRS hatch Kerb Weight was actually lighter, even with 25 KG Weights added & a Spare Wheel as Standard that the 3 Sister Hatches never had..

**VORSPRUNG DURCH TECHNIK. **

Adjust Official Test Results to suit RRP's

Economy & Performance must be better on Paper the more Expensive the Car.

So, what are the correct figures then? How much does my vRS weight then?

Drive it to the Public Weigh Bridge, drive on and see.

Stay in the Car, because cars are not much use without Drivers.

Mine with No Weights on,

But carrying 2 Spare Alloys, Trolley Jack, Tools, a Full Tank & 10 Litres extra petrol & me in it was 1,440 KG.,

which is the real world Fighting Weight.

(but all the extras can be lifted out easily.)

I have recently lost 6 KG, so its like having drunk 'Red Bull'.   Now  I have Wings.

 Bingo wings.

*** They changed the Skoda Official Kerb Weight of the Estate from the Previous given 1,238 kg to 1,313 kg***

EDIT.

I see today that some Lease Sites are now showing the vRS Hatch as 1,318 KG  Kerb Weight, so again 5 kg heavier than the estate.

WHEN WE BOUGHT THEM THE KERB WEIGHT WAS GIVEN AS 1,243 kg, (that was Skodas figure 2010-2013)

Odd since the Estate is 9 3/4 " longer, which is made up of extra Metal, Plastic & Glass, carpet,

Which i believe weighs more. unless made out of Red Bull.   or is it SKODA BULL.
