Featured Replies

hi guys am getting my octavia vrs fully resprayed in a week or 2 and am looking for some advice on the products i would need for the detailing afterwards as obviously is costing me alot to get resprayed in the first place and want only the best stuff to keep it in tip top condition afterwards and dont really no where to start as i usually go to the hand car wash and get the lads to wash vac and polish so any advice much appreciated am also after some good scratch remover which actually works as i bet it wont be long till someone marks it after its all done any hrlp much appreciated thanks guys

Might be worth dropping ChrisRS a quick PM, he is really helpful. He also does detailing services, its quite a way to travel but it will be worth it.

Thanks

If you can be specific on what help you need , I can help you further

ie. What products/accessories do you already have?

Do you have access to a hose pipe?

Outside power cable?

thanks guys i can probably stretch the hosepipe to outside the front and use an extension through house window if needed but i dont have anything as am a complete noob in this area and basically what the car to have a glossy type finish but the car is a mk 1 octavia vrs so its just a solid paint its being painted with would be nice to keep her gleaming like a show car after the respray but she is also my daily if that helps

So its being re-sprayed?

OK

1. Use the hose pipe with a spray attachment to remove as much dirt as possible

2. Apply a spray of Car wheel cleaner (Wonder Wheels Hot Wheels is easily available at supermarkets and Halfords) and brush in with a detailing brush or toothbrush

Rinse away after the next process:

3. Fill two buckets with warm water..Put some Car shampoo (Meguiars Gold Class is great)  in one and agitate with the hose pipe nozzle

4. Apply Car shampoo with a microfiber or sheepskin Pad/mitt and after every application  rinse it out in the 2nd Bucket (Meguiars mitt is good for a beginner)

Start on the roof and work downwards

5. Rinse with hose pipe

6. Dry with a large Microfibre drying towel

7. Apply a wax of your choice with a sponge applicator pad or a QD ( if already waxed recently)

8. Buff off as per instructions with a clean MF buffing cloth

9. Seal the wheels with wheel sealer or Sealant QD

Only thing I'd add to Chris's excellent advice is if you can afford a jetwash at some stage go for a nilfisk and get an autobrite snowfoam lance with some of their magifoam as part of one of the detailing world group buys.

If you can't stretch to a jetwash then an alternative would be to get some citric prewash and use a garden sprayer to apply. Both will lift the dirt off the car before you shampoo so will reduce swirls. In general you can use snowfoam every wash, but I'm told the citrus can remove some of the wax, so that's best used only when the car is quite dirty. Rinse the car 1st, then apply and let it soak. Rinse off then shampoo as usual.

Good luck.

Purple rain fall out iron remover for your alloys.
