Superb buying advice

Featured Replies

Hey guys

Looking for buying MK2 Superb. Cars i am considering 2009 with 120k+ miles.

I found really nice example 2009 model 2.0tdi 170bhp.

Planning to view car tomorrow, just after bit of advice, what to look for when buying superb2? What are common problems? Which engines are good 140 or 170?

What are timing belt intervals?

Many thanks.

At 2009 the 140s will be the older PD engine, noisier and older technology etc. it would be late 10/11 before you'd probably find common rail 140s. The 170s are all common rail and a much smoother refined drive. No serious issues as such mechanically. I've had two mark 2 and apart from some small issues nothing major.

mWorth having a look at some of the threads over the past few while on here and your scenario (or similar enough) has been asked by a few looking for similar cars. I won't comment too much on the timing belt as it's been debated so many times here....! There is a dedicate thread (or two!) so have a look at them as well but 120k miles / every 4 years seems to be consensus for the UK. At 120k miles I'd certainly be watching that one.

At that age and mileage a well looked after example should have plenty life in it so obviously a service history is a must. Try go for the elegance as that has all the extras, leather, bi-xenons, heated and electric seats etc... Just make sure all the toys work though especially with all the electrics as there's quite a bit on the higher spec models.
