Octavia vrs handling

Featured Replies

I've just replaced all my shocks with koni fsd and springs with eibach , I've put an audi tt top strut mount on and recently bled my rear brakes. The car seemed to handle ok on it's first test run, bearing in mind I'm comparing it to my fairly new audi, but on one occasion I came quickly into a bend ( at high speed ) and the front end tucked and the back end wanted to go in a spin!!!!! I'm thinking full geometry and rear axle bushes to cure this, what am I doing wrong here? I would expect a decent handling car from what I've done so far. Any ideas?

Tyres ?

Maybe more speed than the car can handle?

I just think it didn't feel right, I'd like a well ballanced car...... Going to check tyre pressures today, planning to do rear axle bushes and which is the best rear anti roll bar to fit? Also I have some iffy front tyres on it ...... Dare I say it.... Barum... If I replace the fronts what is the stickiest make of tyre and is it best to put 225/45r17 on the standard spiders? Thanks for all your input.....

RARB- whiteline 24mm is great, neuspeed 25mm is better. Tyres are depending on budget really, Falken fk453's or Toyo t1-rs are good mid range, but if you can stretch to them Michelin Sp3's everyday. Both are easily available for the standard 17 inch spiders.

Tyres and RARB will make the biggest difference at this point IMHO. You should know better than to run ditch finders :P

Totally agree with tyres. Just dont go cheapy on these cars. Absolutely no point buying a car like the vrs and putting nasty tyres on. I went with contisport contact 3 in the end and it totally transformed the car. And my nearest roundabout!!

Totally agree with you all about the tyres, only had the car for 5 weeks and the ditch finders were on it when I got it. Do you all run 225/45r17 then, because mine still has the 205/50r17 on....

I stayed with the standard size. I think the bigger tyres cause various issues. Tramlining and slightly higher fuel consumption being the main ones. I never had issues with the 205/50/17s.

Certainly seems to feel a bit more tramliney and uncomfortable with the 225/45s I'm currently running.

My everyday wheels are 205/50 Uniroyal RS2s and the car is great on them, even with a susbstantial drop.

My car has coilovers, a Neuspeed 28mm RARB and full front polybushing.

Yeah comfort was another issue. Stick with standard size imho.

I found mine to tramline so much more with 225's.

Though in the bends its a massive improvement so it evens things out. I noticed about 3MPG difference with the 225's over 205's but then again im going for 300hp.... so i have applied for shares in Shell
