Mk2 Fabia Vrs Question

Featured Replies

Got 14 plate Vrs and wanted to fit a tuning box which is best but does the dealer know even if u take it off everytime its in?

I'm sure I won't be the only one to post this, but here goes anyway. I would be taking great time to consider whether or not I would modify a brand new car if there was the slightest chance that the manufacturers warranty would be invalidated as a result.

Now I've said that, I've not been on the forum very long but have read on here about two tuning boxes that seem to be available for the vrs. One is a TMC box, the other called bluesparks. I have no idea if either can be removed easily, sorry. Nor am I sure if their presence is easily detected by a main dealer or Skoda. Others will be able to assist better with this.

tmc box took me 5 mins to fit or remove, would be hard/impossible to do when engine hot.

1st time takes a little longer. Only removed mine for warranty work and service.

i would recommend tmc and use again on a new car

Same as above really. I've enjoyed mine so far and fitting on a cold engine is a doddle.

If it's a 14 plate car, I'd really advise to wait and let your car run in. Even at 5k miles you engine won't be fully run in.

As your car has the newer CTHE engine, fitting a TMC box might not give you the same gains as on the older engines. You might find you have 190bhp already!

Just my 2 pence.

ive done nearly 8000 miles already and love every minute. i bought the eibach lowering springs straight away and skoda fitted them and dont know what else so thinking tuning box.

There's no way anybody can detect a tuning box was intalled unless you forget to remove it or have accident while having it istalled. If you remove it and run for a while there will be no trace as long term maps will return to normal, after all all boxes do is falsify control signals ECU receives. So it calls for more boost and more fuel, which is reflected in maps.

I would not tune new car, how long to wait? As many theories as tuners I am affraid :)

If you have a warranty claim. A big one. Regardless of what a dealer knows or not, they are not footing the bill. If skoda ask you to sign a declaration asking if you have had a tuning box on, you may have to answer yes. After all you insured your car as modified. And if you get recovered off a motorway I doubt you get a chance to removing the tuning box. So tune away but pay for your own breakage or failures. 4 grand gamble with a turbocharger.

Detect or not detect, that is not the question.

Warranty voiding is one thing (and fraud), but the bigger issue for me is whether you declare it to your insurer.

I can just about sleep at night, knowing that someone is taking SUK for a bit of warranty work, but if the same person who thinks they can get away with that is also happy to void their insurance by not telling their insurer, then that does get my goat.

This is my biggest gripe about tuning boxes, they are presented by many companies as a way to cheat the system.

Modify-Declare-Enjoy-Save..................................(your money for when it possibly/probably creates a big bill for you)

The engine is fast enough, put coin into the suspension so you carry more speed onto the straight bits.... Winner!

Suspension, brakes, tyres then power tuning, after 30k miles.

Beauty of suspension tune ups is they do not invalidate your warranty and have no impact on insurance-Skoda lowering doesn't, everything else doe.

That lowering kit (Eibach-Pro springs) while not the most sophisticated kit to be installed IMHO represents the best value for money mod one can do to vRS.

It has it down sides (traffic calming measures, bumps, turns where road is uneven and spring fully compressed) but on the other hand makes a significant difference to car's handling and driver confidence, probably the most important. I personally get much more feedback from the car and much less understeer.

Proper exhaust modifications are largely overlooked. Not surprising since off the shelf systems cost circa £1k and are only turbo back at the most most gains are to be made in exhaust runners tuning before turbo.

But hey-ho, nothing easier than tuning box I guess!.

However, tuning box would be a great solution for track day. Standard insurance does not cover you anyway while you are on track!

I live about 3mile away from bluespark just come off the phone to them i have 62reg on the cthe engine. I am going tomorrow to have it fitted. They assured me it would fit no problem. £120 odd pound they have an offer on. Usually 170odd. Il post my fundings tomorrow see how it performs.
