recon gearbox?

Featured Replies

So iv got a leaking gearbox casing. Im after people's opinions here. My cars done 142k. 1 previous owner who was a old man that done motorway miles in it. Because iv got to take my gearbox out to fix the leaking box is it worth swapping it for a recon box or is 142k fine on these gearboxes? Also it had dmf and clutch change at 60k. Is it worth replacing these at the same time and if so is it worth going single mass. Also does anyone have a clue roughly how much these parts would cost.

Anyone?

If it changes gear fine, no crunches or whining, jumping out of gear etc, I would leave well alone.

If the box is good at moment, I would use the opportunity while the casings are split to have the diff rivets replaced with bolts, before you will need a recon box because a rivet has escaped and holed the casing for you.

Iv not driven it for a while and its off the road atm so can't drive it to test the box. Gonna put it through its mot then give it a good drive and see how it is.
