oil cloged up oil filter and lack of oil pressure

Featured Replies

iv got a 1.6 green line octavia it is a taxi but is kept up together with servicing. it had the oil pressure light comming on every now and then and now is on all the time. checked the oil filter and t was fully cloged up with what looks like what you would get out of a inlet where the oil breather goes into. its only 2000 miles over the service due. the oil strainer is also blocked with the same sort of stuff and the plastic splash tray in the sump had this this oil type stuff on it as well but the oil when drained wasnt thick or gloopy. i was wondering if anyone has had the same issue because i dont want to fix the oil pressure issue for then what ever made the oil filter clog up to happen again how ever long down the road. thanks paul

Well, the blocked pickup/strainer and oil filter will be enough to cause low oil pressure (and more importantly flow) by themselves.

So you need to change them regardless of what caused the sludge. The sludge could be the result of a missed oil change some years ago, or possibly a symptom of head gasket failure so:-

How are the oil and water levels?

Is there any sign of oil contaminaiton in the coolant, or water in the oil?

Has the car ever suffered from mayonaisse? Indeed, does it normally get hot every time you start it?

no water oil contamination that i can see i have changed the filter before and tryed before removing the sump and finding out the strainer was blocked and strainer is on its way as we speek. i cant see it being head gasket as it looks more like exhaust gas and oil sludge i have never seen an oil filter like this one before its come out as a solid black lump. the car used to be a lese car up till 100k and we had all the longlife srevice history from that car with it and its now on 160k bean serviced every 20k max with c3 long life oil the same as we put in the other 15-20 cars this is the only one to have issues so far. what i dont get is that how can it sludge up in 20k and the oil still be thin even tho there is sludge everywhere. at about 120k one of the drivers did put petrol in it and it was run for a day maybe before it wasnt starting right ect and i drained the tank and cleaned the lines out. since then the idal did jump around sometimes but thougt nothing of it but cant see that being anything to do with it??

Did you ever get to the bottom of this,i've an octy 2011 1.6 diesel, oil pressure sensor light comes on intermittently after 14 km when oil heats up on cornering, roundabouts and take off between 1500 and 2000revs,changed oil pump, replaced big end bearing after finding metal filing in sieve in sump, changed oil pressure sensor switch, checked cluster, still happening, its a ball breaker problem

its only 2000 miles over the service due.

amazed it's still running, at that mileage and especially on taxi work :whew:

And the moral of the story is don't go on variable servicing unless it is motorway mileage.
