Blue Ray disk wont load

Featured Replies

Hello.

Ive got a Sony blu ray player which is about 2 years old but the software is fully up to date. It plays all my disks fine except that it wont load breaking bad season 1 (either disk) - it stops as the green progress bar gets to about 3 quarters full.

The disk is fine as it loads on my laptop although the bar does stop briefly at the same point them moves on.

Is this 'just one of those things' or do I need a more up to date player?

You really need to try it an another player to see if the problem is with the disk.

If you haven't already try giving the disc a clean with a spec cloth or something else that won't harm it.

Failing that and if it doesn't work in anything else then it's probably bejiggered. You might as well try it in one of those disc repair things SkipDr or just buy another copy from Ebay.

The disc plays fine in my laptop so Ive resorted to watching them on that. Both discs have the same issue on the sony but play on the laptop.

Ive only got one more to watch in the 1st season so will have to manage on the laptop.

Sounds like you may need a firmware update on your drive.

Sony are notorious for updating their firmware to spot 'dubious' copies of disks and it may be that it thinks yours falls into that category.

If all other Blu-ray Discs play ok then I would leave the player alone and watch it on laptop

My sony player won't play the sound on certain dream work films and it won't play mp3 discs

After googling my machine + firmware update I decided to make do as some had reported after the update the player wouldn't play anything at all

Risk vs reward!

I've sorted this now Btw. Turns out that the disk was trying to access something on the internet. I disconnected the player from the internet and it loads fine. Very odd since the player can successfully access the internet and BBC iplayer etc works so it must be something the disk can't get to. Oh well. I've finished S1 now and it's onto S2 :)

A lot of them have 'interactive' content, which is fine until the website gets closed.

Blu ray players are very sensitive due to having 2 lasers inside and a spec of dust on these sends them into melt down, power off undo a few screws and clean the lasers gently with a cotton bud job done.

There should be an option in the Bluray players advanced config that allows you to stop discs trawling the internet for additional content. This will mean you don't have

to unplug your Ethernet cable.

I have similar, possibly worse, issues with 2 samsung players. They flat out refuse to even load a menu on new Blu-ray Discs, however also flatly refuse to update firmware with updates I downloaded from samsung a website. Utterly infuriated. Sent messages to samsung but you can't reply to their response, so how can they possibly help?! So I now have two useless Blu ray players! Definitely won't be buying more samsung ones! Shouldn't even have to buy new ones at all!! Money grabbing scumbags!
