64 or not

Featured Replies

So car is being built this week. Now i'm hoping it may come by end if month. Question is do i wait for a 64, not that bothered about the new plate. I just dont want it to have a negative effect on its value. Other thing is i'm thinking of buying a private plate, does this cause alot of hassele for th dealer if i want it on frim day 1?

Cheers

Alastair

Dealer will be only too keen to sell you the car before 1st September as most will delay to get the latest plate - he will probably get all sorts of incentives to register during August!

If you've bought the car on finance and it comes early August  you won't get any choice as the car has to be registered within 10 days of delivery to the dealer.

Well, if you're right and it's PDI before 31/07 I'd say just collect it.

If it gets to 15/8 before you're told it's ready I'd wait for the new reg.

I'm not convinced there will be much incentive - they seem to work in quarterly cycles and the end of this quarter is the end of September.

As for choice, my car was built some time ago, but the dealer knew from the start that I didn't want it until 1st September, so it is currently sitting in Grimsby (i.e. the dealer hasn't requested delivery to them yet).  So it is possible to delay delivery, as long as you're up front about it.  If you try when your dealer says he's got it and it's ready for you, then no, you probably don't have much choice.

And finally, in terms of value... with the registration mark changing twice a year now, it has very little (or even no) effect on the future value of the car.

(and in case anyone is wondering - I don't want mine before September because I've currently got a lease car that doesn't go back until October, and I can't afford to pay for both for an extended period... plus it's not my fault the dealer's 6 month estimate for delivery turned out to be less than 4!)

The problem with waiting is you may have a rushed through PDI, as they are over worked at a reg change.

As others have said it doesn't affect sale price much, so after waiting so long I'd personally get it ASAP. :)

I do have it on finance, already had the 10 day thing mentioned. If it dosent affect value then i'll take it, currently without a car so really need one asap.

Might try and suggest delaying regustration to try and get some incentives :)

I was in the same position when I got mine, It was scheduled for mid Feb, so I asked the dealer to hold it until 1st of March for the new plate.

He said that it wouldn't be a problem and I'm happy I did, at the end of the day it will be worth a little more than a 63 plate, and in my head it seems a bit newer :)

It will make a few hundred difference on the value at the most.

But, as you have another car you are paying for delay as long as possible. The easiest way to do this is by not signing the finance agreement :)

When the dealer calls you to say come in and sign the papers explain to them that you are on holiday, working away from home etc etc and can't make it on for another 3 weeks at least.
