Cool box 5L0065400

Featured Replies

Do any of you guys / gals have the genuine VAG 15L CoolBox (5L0065400)?

I saw one at the dealer and it looked quite nice, just interested to hear feedback on how effective it is for cooling / warming and whether it marks the seat it's sitting on! :)

If you click on the downloads tab you can see the instruction booklet. It seems to recommend placing a towel across the seat to prevent marking....

I was given one of these by my dealer shortly after collecting my vRS. It works quite well and has not marked my seat, although I have taken to strapping it in the boot out of the way of the kids. It has a low battery switch that turns it off when the input voltage is too low  - this tends to mean that it runs for only a short while after turning the engine off. Although I've not tried the heating mode, the cooling mode works well and is quite quick.

It turns out the coolbox is actually a Waeco Tropicool TB15, that can be bought cheaper by not buying from VAG...

I think that could be applied to 95% of the accessories available from any manufacturer.

I have a coolbox of similar capacity which I use for camping. My battery is getting on now - four years - but I find it only just OK running overnight. After 7 hours the car goes into battery saver mode and the internal lights, puddle lights, etc all stop working - and although it started it had one of those heart stopping delays when turning over suggesting it was a bit close to the limit. The box is 48W I think so not surprising.

This box has a gadget to prevent running down the battery apparently...
