Feel like Im driving with the handbrake slightly engaged.

Featured Replies

As the title says when I'm driving along I get a sensation like the handbrake is slightly engaged.

It manifests itself in a kind of hum feeling that can be felt through the pedals, gearstick, steering wheel and even in the footwell when I'm sat in the passenger seat. Its not distractingly annoying but I just wonder if something is out of place.

I dont know how else to describe it. It kind of feels like a brake pad is slightly rubbing. But I get no shudder in the brakes, or steering wheel etc

I thought the tyres might be inflated to much so I dropped them, didnt help any.

Everything is standard - a 1.6 TDI Elegance on Teron 17" Wheels

I thought it might improve as I did a bit more mileage, and the tyres and suspension softened a bit  etc. but it may actual be getting worse, or maybe I'm just more aware of it.  About 1500KM done now since new.

Anyone else feeling this sensation in their drive?

Have you tried pushing the car with the engine switched off?  If something's dragging you'd notice (1) it's hard to push and (2) you'd probably hear it better with the engine off.

If in doubt pop and see your dealer.
