Featured Replies

As the topic says really

Lemme just say firstly I've never modified a car

But it does interest me after reading on here,so...

I can understand how lowering springs work easy enough,but...

What are coil overs?

Do you use them instead of or as well as lowering springs?

Also what are spacers? Instead of lowering springs or as well as?

Please keep it as simple to understand as poss!

Thanks guys

Btw this is in wrong topic, can it be moved to general car chat.thanks

Coilover - In very basic terms, any time a coil spring is fitted co-axial (coil is "over") with a damper. In car modifying, it is normally used of a unit which also has an adjustable spring perch, thus allowing the ride height to be adjusted by turning a large threaded nut on the damper body. The replace standard (or lowering) springs and the associated dampers.

Spacers could be one of 2 different things:-

  1. Packing blocks used tin increase ride height.
  2. Large wshers bolted between a wheel and its hub, increasing the track of the vehicle.

Personally if I got lowering springs I would get matching dampers too.

As Ken explained coilovers are the springs and dampers, but you can adjust the ride height
