TDI 110 losing power when cruising

Featured Replies

I've recently (2-3wks) noticed that my Octy TDi 110 is losing power when cruising. I use cruise heavily on my 58 mile trip to work in S.Wales. There are loads of inclines on the M-way and I've never noticed the car losing speed before.

I set cruise to 75mph and somtimes the speed dips to 70, if I try to accelorate, nothing happens, no power.

87k miles, no mods, FDSH, cruise retro fitted by dealer xmas time.

Any ideas?

Does it get power again if the ignition is swtiched off and back on again?

I have only noticed it when I'm on the motorway. I'm not really sure whether the power loss is permanent. I can still hear the turbo wine when I accelerate at low speed <30mph. I'll have to do some more testing to see if the power loss is there at non cruising speeds.

I can't really switch of the ignition in the middle lane of the m'way :D

Sounds like the old MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor problem. The control system wrongly thinks there's overboost and goes into safety mode. so no proper turbo boost. Switching the ignition off and on again resets the software. It usually seems to happen on full throttle when the engine hasn't warmed up fully.
