Can someone help an idiot Part 2

Featured Replies

Hello people, I've made a list of everything I have now in my cleaning collection and was thinking about trying out my DA polisher today if it doesn't rain as my dad's at work in the afternoon so I have the drive for a few hours and then after that we're both off work for the next fortnight so I won't have chance to do it. I am going to Darlington so can call in at Halfords whilst I'm there if I need anything else.

Here's the list:

60 terry towels (Costco)

36 microfiber towels (Costco)

12 megs drying towels

5 other MF towels

 2 glass cloths

2 sheepskin mitts

2 G3 clay mitts

1 MF mitt

1 MF noodle mitt (for wheels)

1 kitchen sponge (for tyres)

2 MF polish pads (hand)

2 sponge polish pads (hand)

3 megs polishing pads (DA)

3 megs finishing pads (DA)

Demon shine rapid dirt shifter

Demon shine snow foam

Karcher snow foam lance

AG bodywork shampoo conditioner

G3 body prep shampoo

AG fast glass

AG glass polish

Megs ultimate polish

Megs scratch X 2.0

Megs ultimate compound

AG super resin polish

Megs ultimate quick detailer

Harris automotive masking tape

AG high definition wax

Megs ultimate liquid wax (with pad and towel)

AG bumper and trim gel

AG instant tyre dressing

AG vinyl and rubber care

AG autofresh

Just a couple of questions about some of the stuff though.

I take it that the megs compound is the harshest and should be avoided at all costs unless rally necessary, then Scratch X, then Ultimate polish as the lightest polish there (and I take it I should be avoiding AG SRP with the DA?)

Also what do you do with the smaller areas on the car? Do you just do them by hand or what?

And with the DA pads, if I put a few pea sized blobs on to prime the pad, then put a few more on to start work with I think someone said to use QD to wet the pad a little too?

Once again thanks to everyone in advance.

Polishing with different polishes is fine, but it can be complicated and in some cases unnecessary

All you need to get is a good diminishing polish like Scholl S17+ or Sonax Profiline, Then all you do is change the pads for a more or less harsh one as required

OK, so I bought some G3 professional scratch remover, thanks Chris. You make my wallet smaller.

I didn't use the DA today because I swapped TVs over in the dining room and then went to Currys and got a sat nav, a Dyzon groom tool and some Zorb powder, going to Alton towers sometime in the next 2 weeks so I got a sat nav and now I'm updating it.

G3 is fine..but using the correct pad is important. What pads do you have?

You can also top the polishing by applying some AGSRP via the DA as well..Add wax or sealer as an LSP

Those pads are fine

Use the yellow one with the G3

Then use the black one with the AGSRP

Finish with a coat of AGHDW

Thanks Chris, I was going to try the DA out with the megs liquid wax yesterday to practice a bit but it started spitting so i thought I'd better just get it done and used the HD instead. It never rained properly but the rain that we got earlier in the day put me off when it started spitting. I wish I had an indoor area to do this.

Personally I wouldn't apply wax with a pad on the DA

IMO its best applied by hand

That's not to say that you cant
