What is the correct tyre size for GL2?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Looking at getting new tyres for my GL2. The car is fitted, from the factory, with dunlop sport 185/60r15 but with blackcircles it comes up with a 195/55r15.

Which is correct?

Was going to fit dunlop blue response after the sports will have done 55,000miles on a set but many forums suggest people are changing the blue responses after only 14,000m!

In light of this, I'm back to michelin energy savers...

Kind regards,

Ed

Kwikfit is saying 195/55h15 too

If the car was fitted with 185/60 at the factory then how can that not be the correct size?

195/55 will be ok,in theory you will have more grip but the gearing will be slightly lower so a reduction in mpg and a worse ride....although all the changes will be very small. The larger tyres will cost more but you will probably have a greater availability.

If you can get the brand you want I'd probably stick to the 185's.

I have just bought a spare wheel consisting of Skoda toolkit and Skoda 15 inch 6J ET43 steel wheel hub (picked it up yesterday from the dealer) so I can have a spare wheel with the correct size tyre and went through the same investigation. The unified speed limited (same for all cars) "space saver" Skoda kit actually has, wait for it, a 195/55 R15. The dealer did double check the manufacturers recommended sizes because they were a bit confused by this themselves and the correct one for the Greenline is definitely 185/60 R15.

185/60 R15 as others have said is correct for the Greenline, as they supposedly use less fuel than the 195/55 R15, which you will find on the S and SE models and spare wheel for most Fabia's.

VW Polo has also moved from using 195's to 185's for the same reason and all UK Rapids with 15" rims are on the 185's, although in other markets you can find them on 195.

Find myself the 195 provides better handling but these days emissions seem to be the priority.

Oh Skoda Germany produce a list of all offical tyre and rim sizes, which can be found in the download link in the following page;

TP

the GLII has slightly narrower tyres, at a slightly higher pressure to help reduce rolling resistance

185/60r15 is the correct size

I put the blue response's on the front of my GLII a week back, not really done enough mileage yet, but was definitely impressed with the wet weather handling compared to the sport01's that came off

initially the steering seemed lighter, but now the same as before or slightly heavier (difficult to judge as I drive the wifes citigo a fair bit which is a lot lighter on the steering

like you I have seen the reports of poor mileage but decided to go with them and see as partly I should swap the car before I need to change them again and partly there were not many reports or por mileage

Thanks chaps. 185 it is. Just off on an epic road trip with the kids to finish the dunlops off. Tried rotating the tyres a few months ago but the wheels were welded on so I'll leave the tyre place to deal with that!

Thanks again,

Ed
