Instrumentation and Electrics problems

Featured Replies

When my 1.2TSI was 6 weeks old in January it appeared to have an all incompassing instrumentation failure whilst on route to Germany in very wet weather. First of all the airbag warning light came on; quickly followed by just about every other warning light, tacho and temperature gauge failure, cruise control failure and the door locks having a mind of their own locking and unlocking as you went along. I took it to a dealer in Germany who said that he had never seen so many fault codes all at once, but couldn't find a fault. After seeking advice from Skoda he checked 5 earthing points and remade one. It has been alright for 6 months until last night, when the air bag light came on. I will contact my UK dealer & Skoda UK tomorrow. Has anybody had similar problems or has any ideas. My feeling is that there may be a common regulated/stabilised power supply for instrumentation and that this could be at fault. I would be greatful for ideas and experiences.

From your description of the first problem, I would have also suspected ground connection or a global power supply problem with the car.

That usually the reason for multiple faults to trigger at the same time on many modules.

For the problem you have now, I would pop into the dealer & get them to read the fault codes.

It could be completely unrelated but if it again indicates a power problem to the airbag module it could be the same that the last repair was not completely successful.

I had a volvo and the dash looked like a Christmas tree due to all the warning lights. Lost power steering and the cd would play for a track for few seconds then skip back to the beginning. Turned out to be the alternator. May be worth checking the connections.
