SPI thermostat and Mk2 Mpi thermostat compatibility

Featured Replies

After replacing the whole thermostat housing on my 1.3 Mpi felicia, with the new Mk2 thermostat housing. It has become obvious that it is running the 80 degree thermostat.

I have an new 88 degree thermostat from a 1.3 Spi felicia I never got round to using.

Now what I am wondering is, will the old type spi thermostat fit in the new mpi Mk2 housing? Has anybody done this? If nobody has I might give it a go anyway just to see if it's possable, but no point in wasting my time if somebody knows something I don't.

This is the type of new housing I installed http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKODA-FELICIA-1-3-1-3-LXI-94-04-Standard-Replacement-Thermostat-Housing-/400593884426?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3AFelicia%7CCars+Type%3A1.3&hash=item5d4541950a without them stupid clips that always would brake.

Thanks in advance.

OK yes it can be done. you need the alloy end housing and 2 gaskets to seal the stat in to the plastic housing. Done it a few times to keep customers on the road

Thanks for reply, but I only have the thermostat, it's a shame I don't have the spi alloy housing aswell. Anyway this topic might still help others in future, allways wondered if the spi alloy housing could be retrofitted to the mpi, but thought there was no need after the Mk2 housing was introduced. Might still have a fiddle this weekend, and have a go, but never seem to have the time. Still have not had time to do valve adjustments yet. :(

Got round to having a look today, and the thermostat that I am running IS the 88 degree one. So I didn't bother checking weither my spare thermostat would fit but it looked like it wouldn't with out the housing it was intended for, like felicia 16v said. So there must be a fault with the temp sensor I am guessing? Would explain some of the issues with idleing I have been having. But I did at least get to sort out the valve clearences though (3 inlet and 1 exhaust too tight)
