I have an 01 fabia 1.9tdi. I have purchased 2 usb VAG-Com adapters from ebay (different suppliers).

Both come with drivers to convert com ports to usb (the computer only has usb).

In both cases VAG-COM 409.1 or 311.2 test option recognises the cable but when connected to the car with the ignition on - atttempting to connect to any controller returns "No Response from Controller".

Tha car does not have an after market radio and someone else is able to use their laptop and serial cable on the car with no difficulty.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ross-Tech suggest looking for devices sharing the same IRQ using "msinfo32.exe". (In XP Pro, I thought that devises often share IRQ's). In any case the following are shared:

My computer does have a batttery problem, when off mains it continually bleeps 'low batt' - but runs for about 40 minutes.

I do have avg firewall and microsoft anti spyware running.

I connect my Ross-Tech HEX+CAN-USB interface via a USB2 cardbus on my wife's Dell laptop. IRQ11 hosts a MOBILITY RADEON 9000 plus 11 controllers - including the Texas Instruments PCI4451 CardBus Controller. The built-in modem and Crystal WDM Audio Codec share IRQ5.

i'm having the same problem, just bought usb>obd cable and vag-com can see it but when running the software can't communicate with the car won'twork.

any ideas?

I have just purchased a USB VAG-com lead off Ebay and it works perefectly.

The supplier was a company called Virtual Village Ltd on Ebay and are based in China.

The cable is manufactured by a company called Autel and here is a link to there web site.

The connector case on mine is see through blue and appears to be of very high quality.

After installing the drivers automatically the com port set up was com 5 whereas VAG-com only works with up to com 4.

If you are using Windows XP, find the device in the hardware list in the control panel and in the advance options you can change the com port to less than 4.

Post again if you dont understand how to do this and I will find some instructions.

thats not the problem i have mate, vagcom finds my cable on com 3 but won't gather any info from the car.

What version of VAG-com are you using?

If you are using Version 409 have you tried using version 310 instead?

Also when you carried out the test of the interface with VAG-com, did it say that it was OK and OBDII compliant?

If you have a modem in your laptop it may be picking up that instead of your interface

If you go in the hardware list throgh Control panel and then ports what port does it say it is using for the interface?

This is probably where your problem lies.

mine says USB serial port (Com 2)

This is the way they access a serial port from the usb

Dont forget that the serial port on VAG-com must match the one you have set in the setup of the USB serial port.
