Airbag light / VCDS lite / potential beer tokens

Featured Replies

As ever, I'm after some advice.  I've now had the Airbag Fault warning message twice in as many weeks.  The first time was clear cut - I'd disconnected the switch in the glove box whilst trying (and failing) to find a rattle; this was duly reset by the dealer when it went in for a service.  The second time was on Friday and I think was caused by the connector under the drivers seat as it came on whilst I was desperate trying to do as I was told and retrieve "Mr Penguin" from the floor behind me "quickly Daddy".  I've therefore added some cable ties to it in an attempt to make it more secure (connector not penguin).

Before I get flamed, I have searched and read a fair few posts regarding Ross Tech and cables, but alas I can't see the wood for the trees and I'm still not clear what the lite version can and cannot do.  In my case I'd like to know what's triggered the airbag light and reset it, and that's all.  There's no point in the full version for me as I'm not brave or competent enough to use it to it potential.  So, my question is, assuming I'm lucky and get a 'good' eBay cable would that in combination with VCDS lite be able to reset the light, or do I need the registered version?

Alternatively I may well be offering beer tokens to someone near Ormskirk who actually knows what they are doing!

Thanks....

Anything from eBay that can do CANBUS cars (like the Octavia) will be a dodgy hacked version ... who knows what you are plugging into the car??

IMO you are FAR better off contacting someone local to you who has it. (link in my signature of VCDS owners)

Ta  - that's the sort of no nonsense answer I was after! Plus it gives me an opportunity to ask about cornering fogs...

I'm still not sure what use VCDS -lite is though - I guess only if you're brave enough to go with a cheap cable?

VCDS lite is for older, non CAN cars.

Ross-Tech introduced the lite version for people who bought the cheap cables to give them an insight into what it can do, it will not do anywhere near as much as the full version though.

When registered it does everything the full fat version does on non CAN cars.
