Tyre Tips

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone........  Firstly sorry I've been away for so long.  Between changing jobs, getting married and trying to sell a house I've not had much time to get on here.  Anyhow, there a couple of tyre "tips" that I wanted to share with everyone on here so here goes.

1)  I've just swapped the front tyres on my Mazda 6 from Continental Sport Contact 3's to Goodyear Efficient Performance.  Change of job (but no change of house yet) has meant that I'm currently doing 120 miles a day round trip.  Early indication is that MPG is up 5-7%, but the most noticeable difference is road noise, a dramatic reduction.  Really noticeable.  Stopping in a hurry seems fine although that may be slightly less grippy when driving briskly.  Size is 225/45/18 - may be relevant to Ocatvia/Superb drivers.

2) There always seemed to be perpetual what tyre for my Fabia vRS threads, and people generally getting very poor life.  Over 80k with mine I tried Bridgestones, Uniroyals, Continentals, Kumo, Pirellie, and another brand, name escapes me.  The thing that really improved the tyre life - correct load ratting.  My understanding is that the OEM tyres were "87" rated which figures give the lump up front.  The bulk of tyres this size are "83" rated, and I'm guessing that's what 90% of people have on.

Anyhow, hope these are useful to some/all/at least one of you.........  Cheers.

I usually find that even fitting new tyres of the same make reduces road noise anyway. Is your mpg improvement on the read out or tank to tank fill up?

It's on full up. Got an app that I log it on.

I tried the GY on my VRS and noticed a big difference in noise and up to 10% more mpg on a good day. I'll fit them on the new car when the time comes.
