Maybe a bit of a daft question this but what do you guys use to lubricate the door hinges and how do you get it in there without leaving a mess to attract dirt. I'm not sure this has been done at any of its annual services at the garage as there is no trace of lubricant around the hinges. I'm assuming it just metal pins and nothing fancy like self lubricating nylon bushes or the like.

When needed I use WD-40 and a lot of kitchen paper in order to clean the excess.

Yeh, just a bit of wd-40 or equivalent. It's not a high-use hinge so anything will do. Just give it a good wipe down after.

most use white spray grease

I hate the white spray grease as I like to keep my car as pristine as I can. I find the best way for me is to use some straight forward Castrol grease I've had for years in a huge tub!, work the doors until the grease is worked into the pins then clean off all trace of the grease and finish with a polish. Keeps hinges looking like new and well greased.

At service I have to tell them not to use the white grease as it is a swine to remove.

I wouldnt use wd40 personally.

Its actually a degreaser, so will break down any grease which was put on a manufacture. Also, its libricating properties dont last very long at all.
