Engine Oil - what is the spec?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am having the Tavia serviced on Saturday at a non Skoda dealer but want to ensure they use the right oil. Despite searching, I cant find any oil specification that my 20,000 mile 1.8T Petrol Octavia should be using. I will look through the manual tonight but wondered if anyone had some good advice on this subject? Its on fixed servicing so from what I understand it wont be the mega expensive long life oil that goes in? It will be changed every 6 months anyhow so I just want to make sure the right stuff goes in there and that I can also get some as a top up if required. WHats the stuff I need?

Many Thanks,

Lee

As far as I understand, the fixed service use a standard multigrade oil.

Again, as I understand it, the non-fixed service use a fully synthetic oil.

If I were you, I'd use the Full-Syn stuff whichever service contract you have.

Cheers mate but isnt there a spec number ie 5w/40 or similar showing oil viscosity and temp range?

I come from a ford background and the manual always stated the exact recommended spec or alternatives.

If I wonder into Halfords for top up or toget some todo a change myself - what do I buy?

Cheers,

Lee

Any oil that is rated as VW 500.00 or 502.00 will be fine.

These will usually be 10w-40 or 5w-40.

Get in touch with Opie oils they helped me out with some Fully synthetic 5W40 (I think!) I think it was about

You guys are all absolute stars!

That answers the question perfectly, I'll ring ahead to the garage and make sure they are getting the right stuff in now. :)

Cheers all,

Lee
